I came across this in an old book that I purchased, the makers plate in the original photo says "Fawcett Preston & Co - 1894 - Engineers Liverpool" and shows a pair of beam engines in Wallasey Waterworks. [img:center] wallasey waterworks by y10694, on Flickr[/img]

That is a great pic. I have forgotten where the water works were! Will someone remind me. Are they still there or do we work on a different system?

Fawcett & Preston had a factory in Bromborough on the corner of Dock Road South and Thermal Road opposite where Girlings was I think they manufactured sugar processing machinery. when my Dad was in the army my Mum was made to work there making shells for the war effort. What that's got to do with Wallasey Waterworks I don't know (just noticed the title)but I've done it now.

The engine was built by Fossetts. They appear to have made all sorts of mechanical stuff. I have their 200 year history book (published in 1952 !).
