I have just driven through woodchurch on the M53 and saw a woman on the wrong side of the railings on the bridge who appers to be threatening to jump off. There where a couple women on the bridge who looked like they where trying to coax her down. Expect big traffic delays around the area any time now.

I think and hope its just a cry for help as she was over the hard shoulder on the south bound carridgeway rather than one of the busy lanes. Several motorists had pulled over and looked like they where on the phone to the police.

Regardless if she jumps or not and I hope she comes to her sense and won't there will be loads of traffic there as woodchurch road has been dig up for a resurface so down to 1 lane each way was already backing up about 20 mins ago

the motorway cleared as i came off at woodchurch at 5:15pm, no sign off police or bodies or anything, luckily traffic was stood still from moreton spur when i got on the motorway but was literally stood still for five minutes.so i am presuming that she got down.

Excellent. It looks like it turned out well in the end. The last time someone jumped off there she fell on the road and was run over by the bloke that lives opposite me.

Hope he hadn't been drinking at all, or it would have been his fault! (some on here might say...)

update today on Mersey Magazine headlines: M53 CLOSED AFTER WOMAN THREATENS TO JUMP OFF BRIDGE
Published August 2, 2011 | By Editor
The M53 motorway was closed for a short time last night as police talked down a woman who was threatening to jump off an overhead bridge
Police were called at round 5pm last night to the bridge at Junction 3 of the motorway as the distressed woman threatened to jump but officers were successful in their efforts to dissuade her and she allowed herself to be escorted to Arrowe Park Hospital where she is under observation this morning.

I wonder if you would be saying the same if it was your mother or sister?

What if one of the family read this site and see one of the moderators saying their mother/sister/auntie should be taken the vets and put down because she is suffering from a mental illness?

Very insensitive to say the least.

Look Dava, if she as gonna jump she would of done it, it's just a cry for attention, I've come across people like that before and in my opinion they are pathetic and selfish! Think about it.
What is insensitive though is you and Scott charging people £50 to "exorcise" their houses which are "supposably" haunted.
Playing on people's feelings when loved ones have died to make an easy buck eh? Tut tut no

It takes an experience of someone with issues such as this to even begin to understand it. Until one of Hannah's best mates killed herself, I saw it as selfish only.

Fact is, she was ill and not one person noticed.

Understandable, I know who your talking of (not personally) but they also need to express their concerns rather than act in this manner.

Somebody please tell me when I became an exorcist or a ghostbuster lol?

Think you've got a case of mistaken identity.

It's easy to sit there and say someone is pathetic and selfish when you don't know whats gone on, what their circumstances are or their mental state.

And as a for moderator saying a human being should be taken the vets and put down, I find that highly insensitive and offensive if any of the womens family member was to read the comment.

A laugh at a mentally ill womens expense isn't really funny isit?

Would you find it funny Sarah if it was your mother or sister standing over that bridge then you came on a internet news site and there was a comment saying she should be taken the vets and put down?

Anyone who tries to kill themselves is attention seeking and if you're going to do it, you just do? What if you try and fail? Does that make you an attention seeker?

I imagine you could climb to the top of a motorway bridge intent on ending it and then bottle it when you consider just how much it could hurt if you get it wrong. I imagine the actual jump being the hardest part.

It may well just have been a cry for help from someone who didn't know where else to turn. As I said earlier, there's no way of getting inside someone's head and finding out what is wrong. It's a complex thing is the brain.

Sorry to learn of your brothers death Sarah.

It is a very sensitive matter either way.
My own MIL did succeed in suicide, she was menatlly ill and was recieveing ECT but she had come home for the weekend and was very quiet about it, just went to bed as normal frown

My SIL died an accidental death by swallowing too many pain killers. frown

Its not always attention seeking BUT do try to consider other people please. Thats all I ask.

Very sorry to hear it.

One of Hannah's best friend killed herself coming up to 3 years ago now. From the outside she was a fantastic looking girl, outgoing, the world was literally her oyster. She'd won a modeling contract and had just finished her calendar, with pictures on different beaches of the world. She had great friends too.

Yet she still hanged herself. Out of the blue.

It changed my opinion on suicide and mental illness, there's no going back once you've done it.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother Sarah, but I never asked if you knew how it felt. I asked how would you like it if it was your family member standing over the bridge and you seen comments on some internet forum saying she should be took to the vets and put down?

And you described those comments as a laugh.

I think you would find it highly offensive.

Yes people who do this are selfish i'm not saying they aren't, but to ridicule them and make fun of them on a public internet forum isn't the right thing to do.

Well said to previous poster!

My father took his own life in 98 then my half brother early 30's took his own life as well. I have even been admittied on a couple of occasions for attempted suicide even being a mother of two young children at the time, People called me selfish etc but unless they are in my shoes going through what i was going through at the time then they have no right to judge. Depression runs through our family and when you have that dark cloud over you and your head is in bits at the time when you are contemplating doing something to yourself no one else's feelings thoughts etc come into your thoughts. At that moment in time it is like your the only person on earth going through a very hard time etc and so obviously this lady on standing on the other side of the railings isnt going to be thinking rationally and traffic chaos, jams etc are going to be well out of thought for her.

People need to spare a thought for people who suffer with these kinds of thoughts day in day out.x
