Anybody know where Russell Place is/ was? Google maps takes me to Russell Street. This is in relation to a registerd birth at 'no 2' in July 1917. On the cert. It says '2 russell place U.D'? it is a replica, dated 1933 to "be used for the employment of child or young person".

Hi, going by the 1881 census, it looks like Russell Place was off Cleveland St. I'm looking on old maps to see if i can narrow it down for you

The 1938 Kelly Directury puts Russell Place between 21 and 23 Cleveland Street.

Interesting, there was a Russell Place in Tranmere.
I wonder then whether the 'U.D' distinguishes which 'one'?
'urban district' or something?
-just a wild guess

There's only one Russell Place listed in the 1911 Census, at that time No 2 was occupied by Samuel Davies, his wife Louria? and their son Charles.

Here is the Cleveland Street one on a 1911 map, funnily enough, it is a bit of a distance from Russell Street. The Tranmere Russell Place is in the 1861 and 1871 census

I used Upton's information that it was at about 32 Cleveland St, which is the Town Hall end. I have a lot of maps for different years, Birkenhead is the best coverage I have but some other areas of the Wirral as well. I'll start up a new thread for St Georges Mount in a minute.
