That's from a steel engraving dated in the 1860's, there is one on ebay at the moment. Elsewhere it is dated c1840

my boss lives in rock villa and its all sandstone so the 1 in the front cant be (the white 1)

Thanks for the book gen. I have some of the prints and the pdf version has given me the description text. The book was published in 1842.
Other local views are of North Wales bridges, castles and harbours and on Merseyside the Canning Dock, St. Nicholas' Church, the Mersey and, of course, the New Brighton one.
The book is actually available as a smaller-sized reprint but the larger 2 volume original is on Abe for anything between £184 and £611, depending on condition.
