Wethersfield is not on the OS 1875 map, but appears on the OS 1910 version.

A building company is in the process (possibly now completed) of redevelopment and is offering accomodation in the mansion, stable block and some newbuild cottages.

Sorry, no old photos.

Wethersfield House was designed by Edmund Kirby (who also designed Mere Hall and Rathmore in Noctorum Lane). It is not known who the house was built for, but in 1893 Joseph Beausire, a very successful nitrate merchant who had offices in Water Street, lived there and it is possible it was he that it was built for.

Joseph Beausire had eight daughters and four sons, with a staff of up to 17.

In 1902 planning permission was given for a coach house, stables and courtyard.

By 1911 Edward Rimmer Beausire, second son of Joseph, was the owner of the house.

During the Second World War it was requisitioned by the military. After the war it was converted into nine flats and some of the grounds were sold off for housing.

By the 1980s, most of the grounds had been sold for residential development, with new houses within yards of the building.

Neglect set in and the house became derelict until in 2003 an application was made to demolish the building and replace it with 11 new houses. A last ditch campaign saved the house at the eleventh hour.

Can't really add loads other than when I was young we lived on the corner of Weathersfield road and Croft close (the back of Weathersfield house was opposite my front door.

We moved there in the late 70s and the estate was only half built, you could go to the top of croft close and walk accross fields to the shops by the Wirral 100.

I also remember dad being most put out that the road was "unadopted" when we moved in and the council came and tarmaced it and sent us a bill when we had no choice in the matter!

Weathersfield House is indeed due to be turned into 11 (iirc) apartments. The three lodges already constructed are under offer subject to the go ahead on the main house.

It was a victim of the recession but they are about to do the conversion and the developer (Scottish guy) is simply looking to not make a loss on it.

I've been in there, a couple if months ago, in fact I mentioned to Rudebox at a pub meet shortly after that it would be ripe for a UE but due to my connections with it I could never recommend, condone or attend - besides, I've seen it.

Really interesting place, and I have a lot more info on it but unfortunately as I'm abroad and it's all in my office, you'll have to wait.

In fact thinking about it, the pictures I took may well be on my camera still which I have here. Will have a look and upload them when I'm on my laptop.

Hi Uptoncx. You seem to be a hive of knowledge and I was wondering if you have any information about "Revelstoke" in Rock Lane West. Rock Ferry. My aunt (Evelyn Redrobe) was still living there in late fifties and prior to that my grandparents (William and Sophia Graham). When I came back for a trip about ten years ago, it was gone and a whole row of new homes built. I was distraught but could find no info on it anywhere. I would be thrilled if you have any info and would like to thank you in advance.

Hi Upton. Don't know what I did wrong there, but I'll try again. You seem to be a hive of knowledge and so I was wondering if you have any information on a large house named "Revelstoke" on Rock Lane West. Rock Ferry. My aunt still lived there late fifties (Evelyn Redrobe) and she died in 1959. Prior to that my grandparents (William and Sophia Graham)were the owners. When I came back for a trip 10 years ago it had been demolished and a row of new houses had been built...I was distraught and could find no info at all. Hoping that you have a little info you can pass on and thanking you in advance.
