Is this Stairways 'reunion' from the late 80's, early 90's era, or the total sad failure the was late 90's to recent.
I first went there in 1993 with ten quid at 16 and then walked home. smile

Christ, I hope they don't still do that stupid "dance" where they form two lines facing each other and rub their thighs in unison to Whole Lotta Rosie.

Incidentally, Stairways started life around 1979 as a club called The Gallery. it was owned by John Reid of Ellesmere Port rockers Strife. I went there a couple of times and it was ok. Much nicer vibe than Stairways ever had. It's claim to fame back then was that the earliest line-up of Iron Maiden played there.

Yeah, I know that 'dance' thing. I saw some bloke doing it once and the song was going faster and faster and so was he. He was sweating, and was totally red, I thought he was going to explode.

I should add that I was a regular Stairways goer between 1983 and 1985. My abiding memories are:
1. That horrible blurry video screen showing Michael Jackson's bleeding Thriller at least six times per night.
2. Looking at my watch every five minutes and thinking "is it time to go home yet ?", or, "if I'd stayed at home I could've been asleep for at least an hour by now".
3. Wrathchild (sort of Bad News doing Kiss) playing there on Live Aid night.

Which just about sum the place up really. Let's face it, it was crap.

Good point Scoops. In all fairness, I did have some good nights there. Largely though, I went along because my mates were going and I didn't want to look like the odd one out (which was exactly what I was).

Looking back, it goes without saying that I'm non too fond of those days; the 80s in general being a very unhappy time for me personally.

Hope the reunion goes well though.

Late 80's early 90's I believe. It will be good to see some of the people I used to serve back in those days. Had a ball working there raftl

They still had the wall 'TV' thing, it was all blurry and marked. It used to show Scooby Doo on mute. 1983 is a long time ago though!
The last time I went, there were literally ten of the saddest looking people there, it was freezing, smelt, the walls were strangely wet, and it was depressing, that was 2002 I think. Birkenhead in general is so bad, the only place of worth is Hotel California, which isn't that good either.

Message from the organisers of this event- Chez Robertson and Diz Wright- who would like to inform everyone of a date change from the 14th of August to the 21st August.

This decision has also come from Tony, who runs the Seacombe Ferry. As well as the event snowballing and needing a rethink, it became apparent that the Srabsters Rally and Bloodstock clashed with the original date- so hopefully the following week will be better!!

Now I might be able to go smile I went round 1992-1994. Only because they stopped Karmadrome (indie night) on a Thursdays at The Drome. Before that we used to go to Rock Night at Atmospheres!

Ha, I remember rock night at Atmosphere. I had a nose bleed and the bouncer wouldn't let me in. My mate got 'maced' at the Pleasuredrome on the Thursday, we used to go to that pub with cobbled floor beforehand and have a bottle of Maddog 20/20 from the off licence beforehand.
