Court hears case of Wirral mum charged with murder

The case of a young mother accused of murdering her four-year-old daughter was heard at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Laura Fletcher, 22, is charged with murdering Chloe Fletcher on April 29 at their home in Wallasey.

Fletcher had been due to enter her plea today but the court heard that she has now been admitted to the Scott Clinic at Rainhill under the Mental Health Act and was not present at court.

The little girl's body was found fully clothed at her home in Oakdale Road, Wallasey after her mother telephoned for an ambulance. She had drowned and was laid out on her mother's bed.

Judge Henry Globe, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, was told that both the prosecution and defence are having psychiatric reports prepared on Fletcher which were expected to be completed by the middle of August.

She was further remanded in her absence until September 8 when she is expected to enter her plea. A trial date has been provisionally fixed to begin on October 26.
