Came across this query on facebook
"This image is from a ceramic pattern book containing logos which the Spode factory printed onto specially commissioned tableware (The books are haphazardly arranged and were used between 1820-1890). Has anyone any information on Montgomery's Railway Hotel in Heswall? My searches online and in late Victorian street maps have proved fruitless." Many thanks
here are some ideas that were suggested
Heswall railway station opened 1886. Statue of liberty was dedicated in 1886.
The Black Horse used to be The Heswall Hotel run by a Montgomery
Please could someone post a map with Heswall station and the Heswall Hotel or Black Horse on so I can see why it may have been possibly named Railway Hotel

I'm none the wiser.
Was the Station Hotel built as a new build nearer the station or was the The Black Horse Inn replaced by a Station Hotel which may have had a name change to Heswall Hotel and later back to the original name of The Black Horse.
Not sure if The White Lion mentioned was the one in West Kirby or where The Ship was

If you look at the 1892 Cheshire Observer, Henry Orme, the proposed location for the new hotel may be where the Hotel Victoria is on the 1898 map.

1896, Henry Orme was recorded as being with the Railway Hotel. The Victoria Hotel is not in the 1896 directory.

a possibility is, the Railway hotel became the Victoria Hotel?

Is it possible the association Montgomery has with the Railway Hotel is that he built it, he was a contractor?

The White Lion was at the corner of the four way junction of Village Road, Gayton Road, Wallrake and Station Road.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

Thomas Montgomery was also a brewer, he bought the Lion Brewery Co, Pepper St, Chester.

Can't find any evidence on maps, probably the White Lion was demolished and the Railway Hotel was built on its site.

Could the station have been what is now the Wirral Way ? That went across the bottom of Station Road, Lower Heswall.

Yes, the station is roughly where riverbank close is now but the hotel was in the village up the road.
