Majority of dog owners i know are pretty responsiblr, i do know two that never take bags at all so no pretence of cleaning up after their dog.

Use of leads seems to be sporadic - I cycle to the ferry most mornings and sandon/egremeont proms are a favourite at around 5.30am to let fido/rover/fifi run around without a lead.
Plenty of evidence of people without bags around that area too, no idea if the two are linked.

See this has reared its head again in the council, also banning dog leads over 2m long. Mixed views on this not being a dog lover. Used to be a member of Ness gardens when kids were small as it was dog free. Got fed up of bad dog owners leaving crap all over the pavements where we lived on a dog walking route. I suppose its easier to spot and fine someone just walking their dog in a no go area than it is to actually catch them not picking up. Think its just moving the problem. Feel sympathy for the majority of dog owners affected by any ban. Council trying to deflect the green belt housing fiasco?

Seems like the classic case of wanting to be seen doing something with little regard to the common sense and impact of what they have done.

I don’t know where the 2m lead applies but if it is everywhere that is ludicrous, generally people using extending leads are usually trying their best to be responsible to society and the dog.

I have got sympathy with the rule that dogs should be on a lead in the cemetery, I walked a family members dog around Rake Lane cemetery the other day (on a lead) and there was a woman there with three dogs all off the lead running in and around the graves.

In my mind it is certainly not in the same league as those dog-walkers who don't pick up their dog's poo on the like of football pitches and play areas.

At one time it was clearly displayed what relevant by-laws were in existence but of course those very signs become a target of abuse and vandalism these days.

Currently dogs are not allowed in a cemetery at all!

Anyone going to the Town Hall on Tuesday then? 5.30pm start.

Wirral Good Dogs
10 January at 21:10
PLEASE SHARE: URGENT - Wirral Council has decided to implement a Public Space Protection Order aimed at individuals and families with dogs right across the borough.

This Public Space Protection Order or PSPO means a privately owned company will be hired by the council and able to fine (and profit from) dog owners when their dogs do certain things. These things include need not even be detrimental to anyone or anything-

🐶Stepping a paw on a painted white line on a park or running across an unused football pitch in a public park = owner fined £100

🐶If considered boisterous, and the dog is not immediately put on a lead = owner fined £100

🐶 If a family or individual with a dog is stopped and asked to present empty poo bags, and they can’t (maybe they have used their poo bag picking up the poo) = owner fined £100

Plus many more!

What worries us, as in the instances shown above, fines will be issued and money will be made, under the guise of ‘solving a social problem,’ when in fact no harm is being done and no social problems are being solved by the fining.

🐕We believe all these rules

😔will discourage and demotivate dog walking - the number one form of physical activity in the uk, and so will affect our health long term

😟will create isolation in communities, as people have yet another reason not to go outside

☹️will create deserted spaces vulnerable to crime and antisocial activity (after all, the main users of our parks are dog owners!)

😣will make proper dog care difficult and so lead to unhealthy and unsocialised dogs

😫will hit hardest the elderly and infirm - those who maybe cannot drive their dog elsewhere and rely on a local space

😩will NOT solve the problems that it is pertaining it wants to solve - ie dog muck. We believe that those who flout the rules now will continue to flout the rules and that a draconian and exploitative PSPO will not make irresponsible owners be responsible! There are other ways - we do not need nor want a PSPO!

😬We have not even mentioned the that the security body the council have hired to carry this work out has an extremely poor and worrying reputation and work on COMMISSION- so are incentivised to fine.😬

👋If YOU believe that Wirral Council are wrong in implementing a PSPO - please, please share this post with everyone that you know and if you can, please attend Wallasey Town Hall (council) on Tuesday 15th at 530pm to show your support with us. This is more than about dogs, this is about exploitation and monetary gain.

No signs saying no dogs allowed in Rake Lane Cemetery, only pick up after your dog signs, which logically would suggest that there is no ban there, as to your comment about not picking up after your dog yes I agree, but for those visiting a grave to either stand in or find a deposit neatly curled up on a loved ones grave must be just as upsetting.

When I was young, I recall a lot of parents stopped their children from running across gravestones as a matter of respect, never mind dogs.

Perhaps not so much with cemeteries but there are many graveyards where it impossible not to walk on graves.

Wirral council have said that currently dogs are banned from all cemeteries and they are going to relax that rule to allowing dogs on lead under the new order.

Personally I think graves are a ridiculous waste of time, money and space and anybody, any animal and anything can dance on top of wherever my remains end up which I hope is well incinerated dust.

Think in the not too distant future there will be no burials and graveyards may become a thing of the past. ..No room for the living let alone the dead.
