Can some kind person tell me how to create links on this site please?

You can, apparently, create a link to a website, but this icon asks you for the address of the site, twice, using different words and doesn't, obviously, allow you to highlight text you have written. from where can be triggered.

Probably blindingly obvious once you know how, but I don't. Any hints gratefully received.

The first entry is the url (web address) of the website, the second is the description you want displayed. You can make both the url or have a custom name. The following two examples point to the same place ....

https://www.bbc.co.uk

BBC

The button is just an aid instead of typing in the following (using the same examples).

Code
[url=https://www.bbc.co.uk]https://www.bbc.co.uk[/url]

[url=https://www.bbc.co.uk]BBC[/url]

Thanks, that seems perfectly clear. Why on earth does the website complicate it by asking for the same url twice?

Very confusing.

With long URL's its better to have a description then an incomplete abbreviated long url eg ...

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=f...&dcr=0&ei=UJnwWaS2M4mh4gSY7ZbYBg

or

Google Ferrari Dino

On other similar sites, one is expected to highlight the text which triggers the link, and add the address of the site you want to jump to. This seems a lot simpler, but perhaps I'm just used to it.

Easy is what you are used to, I wouldn't like using highlighting because it can be a pain on a mobile where you haven't got a mouse or touchpad.

IIRC until a couple of years ago many forums didn't aid entering description/title at all, just the URL.

I normally type in the bbcode and only occasionally use the button, it saves me switching to the full reply screen.
