Was it "hard going" getting up to the top?

Forgive my ignorance!! but on one of the photos there are what look like two big white balloons - do you know what they are?

Its the fourth photo down in the second post of the photos.
Sorry just realised it's the observatory!!
I'm not sure if you mean the climb to the windmill or inside the windmill but the answer to both is no!!
Parked about 100 metres from the windmill (even I can manage that far wink ) and inside there are 2 floors with steps like a ladder but fixed in between

Bidston Windmill pics from a book about Birkenhead. Interesting it says there was another windmill 20 metres away. Does anyone know where this is?

Yeah, the original old wooden windmill, post holes are still visible in the ground (rock!)
Do a search on Wiki, been on before!
Would that be the 'cock pit?
I heard that may have been a mill.
The cock Pit is on the boundary /hoylake road side of the hill.if you stand in front of the windmill looking towards the bridge over vyner road and look to the left you can see a small mound and on the rock as Hoseman has mentioned you can see post holes and water run off gulleys.
When I was up the windmill in August they said that it would be open again this Saturday 5th September 10am - 12 noon. This will be the last time this year.

did anyone go today?
no
I was going to go but the weather was no better than last time so I didn't see the point.
Apparently IF (and it is a big if) the bats have not returned by the first Saturday in October then they should be open. If not then today was the last for the year frown
D.D.put your pics up mate!
