So as most of you already know the Tower road is closed to traffic, from July 2020 till Feb 2021, I thought this was something to do with sewer drains but i went over to day and had a closer look, for now most of the work seems to be around the Met College. They have rows of black plastic tubes below the road surface which again i thought was to get rid of excess water, and on visiting Wirral Councils site and reading the information with regards this work.
"Description of the scheme.
These improvement works will create high quality facilities, encouraging more sustainable travel,
Widening the pavements.
Reducing the width of the road.
Crossing points for pedestrian's and cyclist and planting 130 trees.
These improvements will encourage cycling, walking and the use of public transport,
Reduce the speed of vehicles, improving road safety!
Create new street design that is adaptable and suitable for the future,
Cost £3.2 million"
There's been some money spend over the years on this stretch of road?, still say they built that College in the wrong place. But what i am worried about now is the sign i saw on the dock road near Duke street bridge, informing us as of the 7th Sept for 23 weeks work will be carried out there, can't find any information on the Wirral site, so don't know what is involved but for six months its going to be major, so if this is the case there's going to be a lot of angry drivers over the next six months, not to mention the green house gases if we are all stuck in traffic queues trying to get to work.
Not forgetting the penny bridge is also closed to through traffic.

The Penny Bridge is open and I've been over it today. There were some roadworks near the old level crossing, with temp traffic lights in operation. Half the road had been dug and filled due to pipe or cable laying and they were then working on the eastern side, so it shouldn't be a problem for long. As to the roadworks on Dock Road near Gorsey Lane/Duke St, these were just a hole in the pavement outside SMM, and the roadworks guarding did not intrude into the carriageway.

The WBC site map of roadworks is very interesting. As far as I could tell, it indicated a contraflow around Liscard during the school traffic peak and somehow was connected to the closure of Poulton Road for resurfacing as well. See https://one.network/custom/wirral/

But I looked at the map yesterday. The schools diversion route said something about distancing. Today it's just the diversion route (still the wrong way) for resurfacing.

You know, I thought I had been over it, but since the Council declared it closed to through traffic some time ago because of the tip, I haven't seen them declare it open again.

So far no other work has started on the Dock road, yet the yellow sign is still there!
Poulton road was resurfaced last year, from Liscard road junction for quite a way, yet for what i could see there was nothing wrong with the road, i even asked the Council why are the digging up a good road yet leaving the worse part untouched, {the part they are doing now} the reply i got back was its ok!, So makes me wonder why they are doing it now if its OK, did they do the wrong part last year and didn't want to admit it, but a year on , i bet it cost more to do this year than last?

I rode over Bayswater road the other day, just as the road sweeper was sucking up the lose chips, what a cloud of dust, strange that they resurfaced a part of that road and left all the pot holes untouched?

There are currently roadworks and temporary traffic lights on the stretch between Penny Bridge and St James' Church.

Four Bridges is open to cyclists and pedestrians. I cycled through there this morning and there are concrete blocks outside the college due to some plank on a motorcycle or scooter trying to get through and nearly running someone over.

As a council tax payer, I look upon the Tower Rd work as a ridiculous waste of money.

I totally agree Phil.

So work has now started along the Dock road, the fencing has gone and the trees have been cut down, which i find a shame, and looks like work has started on the eyesore that they are going to build there! if they build all the buildings/shops/hotels etc on this land in and around the docks, its going to be murder getting over from one side to the other in a year or two, Tower road will be a no no, Penny bridge leads to the tip and that leaves Duke street, God help us!
I also want to know why it takes forever to do anything in this country, six months work to do Tower road, another 23 weeks to do Dock road,[] i take it better footpaths, it took around 6 weeks to rip the old flags up from Brighton street/King street and lay tarmac, in that time the whole length of pavements from Seacombe Ferry to New Brighton should have been done, there was enough workmen and plant doing the job!
