Hey there,
We're releasing a compilation of some local bands from round Merseyside and the North West, but thought it'd be cool to hear who else you like - we've noticed Sound of Guns getting a lot of press recently (they're nothing to do with us!). Who are you into? Looking forward to SoundCity / Creamfields?
Liverpool-based LIPA Records has previously released compilations curated by Fran Healy of Travis and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. This year the label goes it alone with an eclectic collection of unsigned talent based in England's North West, but originating from as far afield as Norway, the USA, Ireland and Japan, covering genres from rock and pop to folk and country. Click the image to visit the label's Myspace page for more info on “Shuffle.Play.Repeat”,
now available on iTunes.
The label's first release featured an early demo from the then little-known band The Wombats, so who will you discover this time round? Have a listen and let us know your faves! It'd be great to know what you think :-)

And if you don't mind popping over to Liverpool, come down to the “Shuffle.Play.Repeat” launch party at Static Gallery this Wednesday (20th May) as part of the Liverpool SoundCity festival featuring artists from the release plus special guest headliner Wolf Am I (former Kill The Arcade).

Trunk Monkeys are a great band made up from some of the Original members of Insanity Beach
They would have a job being the "original" members, because my brother was in the original lineup with Ian, and hes not in the
Trunk monkeys!
Wench know all...Wise one is she!

Ask your brother does he know Steven Murphy who played Bass Guitar when they sang songs like 'One Night Stand' & 'Angel' back in I think 2001ish. Steven is now bass guitarist with the Trunk Monkeys

Is one of the original as that is Steven Murphy with his hand over his eyes
No it's not - that's our James.
This is CD he gave me
It's still James on the picture though
Looks very much like Steve to me but if you say not. I'll ask his dad later what years he was in the band. But I remember mid 90's playing footy with him every saturday on the Fender Field and I'm sure he was with them than, and had pony tail, as did his brother Ian and Anthony.
It's James Eyres. I know it's James because he is my best friends' fiance and I've known him for just over 17 years.
L-R is Nibby, (mental block), James Eyres, Ian Cowell and Pete Doffman.
Just spoke to Steve Murphy Senior he says he thinks he was in band 1999ish - 2003ish. So apploogies wench, but does look like him on photo. So Not ORIGINAL member but A member.
That's ok mate
ANY WHO'S: the Trunk Monkeys are good.
Trunk Monkey's MySpace
Jay, weve had this conversation before!!
Senility setting in ?
My brother is Sean Dutton, in the Beach early 90`s-late 80`s!!
Played Guitar with Ian. Not in your pic tho, earlier!!There is some promo pics about shot in new brighton
Have we

Damn I must lay off the Jager Bombs

He left just as I met them - James replaced him I believe.
SOOOOOO...Im right, the rest of you are wrong....COOL> Me wins!!
No, because I said he wasn't a founder member too

so there

*blows raspberry at hoseman*
"Blow it out your arse" as popey said to Olive!!!!
I was going to say "I'll bloody blow you in a minute" but you'd just make something rude out of it and get me into trouble again so I'm not going to say it now. I'm going to take the dog for a walk instead.

If it was your hilarious haha....Actually I live with one of the members of Savage Outlaw and therefore we share a computer. I realise that I may seem slightly bias, but the guys don't want falseness from their fans they want positive and negative critisicm, so anyone willing to give this would be great.
The Undertakers are still brilliant.

The Undertakers were around at the same time as The Beatles, played the same venues around Merseyside, i think I'm right in saying they were a Wallasey group.

Great that bert. Saw them last in the Liverpool on August Bank Holiday at the Matthew St thing. Looking forward to next year.
I remember seeing them on the Majestic in Birkenhead, also Screaming Lord Sutch on the same night
Lord Sutch I saw in West Berlin, it was a while ago. I haven't seen him anywhere lately.
And i hope you don't see him for a long time.
Me too, I'm not ready to go yet.
remember seeing the Undertakers in the 60s
They used to walk to the stage carrying a coffin
Didn't Screaming Lord Sutch try to stand in some elections for MPs as an independant
just googled Screaming Lord Sutch wikipedia
The Official Monster Raving Loony Party[1] is a registered political party[2] established in the United Kingdom in 1983 by musician and politician David Sutch, also known as Screaming Lord Sutch (1940-1999).[3]
Political activities
In the 1960s, he stood in parliamentary elections, often as representative of the National Teenage Party. His first was in 1963, when he contested the by-election in Stratford-upon-Avon caused by the resignation of John Profumo. He gained 208 votes. His next was at the 1964 General Election when he stood in Harold Wilson's Huyton constituency. Here he received 518 votes.
He founded the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in 1983 and fought the Bermondsey by-election. In his career he contested over 40 elections, rarely threatening the major candidates, but often getting a respectable number of votes. He was easily recognisable at election counts due to flamboyant clothes. It was after he polled several hundred votes in Margaret Thatcher's Finchley constituency in 1983 that the deposit paid by candidates was raised from £150 to £500. This did little to deter Sutch, who increased the concerts he performed to pay for campaigns.
His most significant contribution to politics came at the Bootle by-election in 1990. He secured more votes than the candidate of the Continuing SDP, led by former Foreign Secretary David Owen. Within days the SDP dissolved itself. In 1993, when the British National Party gained its first local councillor, Derek Beackon, Sutch pointed out that the Official Monster Raving Loony Party already had six.
He appeared as himself in the first episode of ITV comedy The New Statesman, coming second in the 1987 election, ahead of the Labour and SDP, which saw Alan B'Stard elected to Parliament.
Adverts in the 1990s for Heineken Pilsener boasted that "Only Heineken can do this". One had Sutch at 10 Downing Street after becoming Prime Minister.
[edit] Private life
Despite his antics, Sutch suffered from depression and committed suicide by hanging on 16 June 1999, following the death of his mother the previous year. At the inquest, his fiancée said he had "manic depression".
Hey Wench, Half man half biscuit are still gigging!
The last time i saw Lord Sutch on the TV, he and 3 of his mates were walking around inside a wardrobe that was on its back laying on the floor, he said he was having a cabinet re-shuffle.
Hey Wench, Half man half biscuit are still gigging!
WHAT!?!?

Surely the Biscuit half must be a bit soft now
Hehee....I never saw half man half biscuit but have heard a lot of good about them.
If anyone fancies a bit of live music tonight, Savage Outlaw (mentioned above) are playing at the cali tonight about 9ish.
I work with half the biscuit, guess he can be a bit soft, Ha ha !! They are in Leeds this thurs.

Someone told me this weekend that Noddy Holder used to be with the Undertakers and left to start up Slade. Is this gen?
Never heard of that one Bandy, the Undertakers were a Wallasey band and as far as i know all of them were from around here.
That's what I thought, they go back to way back when. i told the bloke it was rhubarb but he insisted. Will check it out eventually.
Haven Hold were my old neighbours band, don't know if they are still playin as their drummer was sent down for 5 years.
Havenhold split a couple of years ago (before the drummer was imprisoned, although the split was because of the drummers behaviour...) but the 2 song writers Oliver Byrne and Jon Beaman started a new band called The Shed Spiders (
http://www.shedspiders.com) who I personally think are one of the best local unsigned bands we have had for a while. another band to see is bay 7 great funky style.
CONKYConky are a 4-piece rock band from the North West based on the Wirral. The band formed in late 2007 as a group of 3 friends who were already established musicians from other local well known rock groups. Conky’s first official gig at the Swinging Arm in Birkenhead saw them play to a full house, a phenomenon that has followed them to every venue.
The original line-up consists of:
Lee – Vocals and guitar. Lee is an extremely talented vocalist and guitarist who has been gigging since 1984, rumoured to have the biggest voice on the current rock scene.
Dave – Bass and vocals. Dave started as a vocalist (classically trained tenor) then as a singer/guitarist before moving on to playing bass.
Col – Drums and backing vocals. Col originally started as a bass player in numerous local bands before finding a natural flare for the drums, which eventually lured him away.
Conky toured the North West for their first year getting rave reviews before deciding to add another element to their already powerful line-up. The band decided that the best thing for their dynamic was to add a second guitarist, and having previously worked with Dave and Col, they recruited an extremely technical guitarist, Al.
Al – Guitar. Al is a modest but extremely talented guitarist who always leaves a lasting impression on other musicians wherever he goes.
Now a complete and powerful team, Conky have continued to wow audiences wherever they have gigged, not only with their fantastic interpretations of covers and originals, but with their amazing live performances.
Conky cover a vast array of bands, everything from Stereophonics and The Rolling Stones right through to Metallica, with their own material blending perfectly into the set.
This band pride themselves on providing a different experience with each performance, always adding new material at EVERY gig, always hard-working but always fun.
Recently headlining the Wirral Show, 7 waves radio introduced them as “the best rock band in the North West”.
This is a band you really don’t want to miss – great music, great performance, a great night out, and as they say you will leave feeling officially CONKYFIED.
