That time of year again when compare the market or other comparison sites throw up a £100 saving. I note my renewal letter says " If you have been insured with us for a number of years you may find cheaper insurance elsewhere" Presume that's a standard requirement by Financial Conduct Authority.

Intrigued to listen to the sales patter of the young lady who was desperate not to lose my business. She makes it personal to her and you. "I don't want to lose your business so I have applied the maximum discount...look at the saving which you could spend on your kids for Christmas"

I politely reminded her that it was Peoples Choice who were losing my business not her and was very sorry if she lost any commission (she said she didn't). I did suggest to her it was a shame that Peoples Choice didn't give me the lower price on my renewal letter rather than shafting loyal customers.. Shop around folks...now to switch energy supplier.

Utter madness if people don't shop around. A couple of years back I got my renewal letter and as always went on Go Compare and Money Supermarket etc. Same company £125 cheaper. I rang them and they say renew on line sir and you will get the cheaper price.

Perhaps the least likely to shop around are the elderly.

Always try companies like Aviva who aren't on comparison sites . I got a quote £80 cheaper

I try a few comparison sites and a few that don't use them. So far the comparison sites have been cheaper but the sample size is far too small to draw any conclusions from.

I find the comparison sites show you the lowest on the first page, then as you click into it, they try to sweeten you to more cover and then the breakdown cover, only to find the price from the first page goes up, and if its monthly its higher again.

All that said, its still cheaper than my default renewal letter.

What I find gets right up my nose is admin charges for this and that. Why should it cost £90 to cancel early? Why £45 to change your details?

Just watch out for those it's becoming the norm.

General Accident on comparison sites and they are something to do with Aviva. Similarly Peoples Choice are Hastings

They might be underwritten by a bigger company, lots of smaller ones are. Lloyds Car Insurance used to be rebranded Churchill, Shielas Wheels is just esure, and so on.
