Right i am going to try and get a trackday up and running who's up for it.

[Linked Image]

I am taking the XR4i on a trackday before i start working on it and have spoke to a couple of people about doing a trackday who would like to do one.

Its in a place called Elvington which is in York about an hour and a half away.

Its run on a airfield so there is nothing to hit as there are no walls as such and unlike places like Silverstone who will black flag you for spinning here they wont and they let you go as fast and sidways as you like but saftey is always on there minds so they wont let you drive like a fool.

[Linked Image]

I will more than likely have a 325 4door or another XR4i which i am bidding on now. So sombody can use this as promised in another topic.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PAY FOR THE DAY AND GET THE CAR THERE AND BACK AND FUEL IT FOR THE DAY.

[Linked Image]

Its £95 for 2 drivers (same car) and £5 to be a passenger. And its also FREE to get in.

Its would be such a laugh us all convoying down there and were else are you going to take your car to its limit and not get a ban.

[Linked Image]

As i found out this is one of the best ways to see what your car can do and find out what you need to sort to get it to go better.

You dont have to take your own car get a couple of you to buy a £300 pound car and use that.

How funny would it be to see the likes of Tony220 in his NOS metro or stu sidways in his beast.

[Linked Image]

Its more than likley going to be november so there is plenty of time to get your car ready and comeup with the money.

YOU MUST PAY IN ADVANCE AS THE TRACKDAY IS A PRE-BOOKED EVENT AND THEY DO NOT TAKE MONEY ON THE DAY UNLEDD YOU ARE A PASSENGER.

Copy and paste your name if you are interested.

Only thing about elvington is the surface - it is very very abrasive frown

You will do a full set of tyres in over the day - thats new to bald eek

Unfortunatly, I cant get my std wheels over my front brakes so wont be doing it as the total cost would be £95 + circa £500 for a new set of 18" tyres frown

Its just that after the price of the trackday and then the tires, it prolly works out cheaper to do Oulton Park which is less abrasive, better on tyres, longer, closer, more interesting than an airfield with cones marking the track........

However, Oulton Park is more in the initial outlay which is bound to put people off

I'll be up for this. Just need to work out whether Iam going to take the Lotus or another car. Will get back to you. I took my Esprit on a driver training day which had a track session at the end. I absolutely hammered it. Said I wouldn't take it on a track again. Might buy something on Ebay or use another Esprit but a 2.2 turbo with Lotus works engine with 408BHP!!! Now that would be fun!! I'll put pictures on this car up later, it's in pieces. It's a joint venture race car which may be ready next month.

Stuy, topgear tyres in Ellesmere port do good part worn 18" from £25-50 each fitted and balanced. It's another option for you??

I once bought a mint set of two rear 285/35/18 Perelli P Zeros for £50/each for my last Esprit.

But it's in SO many pieces, it's touch and go whether it'll be ready. Needs suspension, steering rack and drive shafts before it will drive.

Is that the one with the Race engine Dave ??
Posted By: Superdavelotus Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 12th Sep 2005 8:57pm
Yes. It has come from a S300 Esprit which produced 300BHP. Original owner bought the car new at £60K ten years ago then spent another £30K at Lotus Engineering to knock out another 108BHP. It apparently has titanuim rods and other stuff inside the engine. Owner wrote it off six months later. New owner bought the engine and special ECU from Douglas Valley for £5K eight years ago. It only had 14K on the clock. £20K later and the owner lost interest in the car and this is how is looks now.

BTW, sorry to harp on and go a little off subject. Maybe we should start a new thread and clean this one up don't you think??

What happens if you book a car under it's reg name and then at the last minute you need to take a different car for one reason or another like it breaks down etc, can you change it to a different car or do you just lose your money?

Posted By: spinking Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 5th Oct 2005 8:29pm
Back straight is long i got the bm to 120mph before i needed the breaks could of been faster but the breaks were rubbish. Then the otherside of the course is twisty but not tight as such the turns are sharp but wide then the top bend is a 180 long double apex took that at about 80ish on verybad tyres and hung the backend out and nearly filled my pants.

They are running 2 courses on the day. One's a track and one's a sprint which is a tight course without any overtaking allowed.

Yes I agree. We do need some more spectators from CW.

What tyres do you use Tupac, track or road tyres? I'm concerned with the track being very abrasive. Also is it a long high speed track? I priced some Yokohama track tyres up for the Skyline (235x40x18) which were £196 each eek but I got a generous offer off a mate who was going to give me his track tyres which would fit my Prelude and would work out a much cheaper day so i'm unsure which car to take now think

I am just taking 2 sets of road tyres if you want grip take slicks if you want sideways take rubbish tyres. Because there isnt anythink to hit (armco wise) i go to learn how to get the backend out and dont think i would enjoy it as much if i took a fwd car but thats up to you.

The backstraight is were you will get the speed up. It all depends on how brave/daft you want to go and how confident you are in the car.

I reached speeds of alittle over 100mph on the back straight in the 325 but i have heard of a cossy pushing 140mph+.

Slowley but should be ready intime.

Just in the middle of taking out everything i dont need from inside the car backseats carpet ex.

Me and my mate are going to do the big ends nextweek then its just the breaks which i think justneed bleading then the cars more or less ready oil cahnge n stuff.

Does anybody know how many miles i need to run the bigend in for. Might have to drive the car to Elvington.

Scooby/evo ad hows your cars getting along.

Carnt wait for the 19th will be a good laugh.
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 14th Oct 2005 9:09am
I did order some Tein coilover for the Skyline and then changed my mind when I found out how hard they are meant to be for normal road use. Apparantly they're so hard that on a bumpy road with standing water it can cause the car to aquaplane, so with it being my everyday car i'm not getting them now so lost my deposit frown

Got some Toyo tyres for the Honda, brake discs, Megan Racing manifold, de-cat pipe, cat-back Blue Flame exhaust system and Ferodo DS2500 pads incase i decide to turn that into my track car instead, it probably makes more sense and also considering I can do more stuff to it than the Skyline. Handling will be better if it does rain as well.

Got a VTECH controller to go on next and a Mugen racing chip which will all take the power of the car to around 250-260BHP laugh . Just going to look to see how much a throttle body conversion will be to take it to 300BHP laugh

Mines all done matey, ready and waiting....

Slight oil leak on the Diff which i will do soon and i am looking at a bigger Turbo possibly omg

Looking good matey, looking good.......

Minimum 500 miles for the bearings mate, idealy 1,000 but 500 is better than i kick in the stots

Hoping for a very cold and dry day, cooler charge temperatures (Makes the car feel very very crisp) and i am running semi-slick's so the rain would not be good, but it would be serious fun thumbsup

I am loving this, its like christmas come early i tell you. laugh

I am pretty sure we can arrange an Un-Official timer for our own use only, possibly one of our spectators could do the job for us ?

If it rains it will be so so funny raftl

I have just ordered a suction mount for my Cam-Corder so i can video from inside the car so you could also view a lap of the track and i can stick it on the bonnet facing me so i can see myself crapping it as i go around the track smack

They are HOT on people timing so be very carefull if you want to time .

They arnt insured to allow timed runs.

Starting get the breaks ready seems to be only a bleed problem so thats saved me a couple of bob.

Think my cars got a LSD as a extra from the factory so thats a bonus.

Also thinking of stickering it up for the day as i wont be keeping it white when its finished could put number 69 on it.

Were is the best n cheapest place to get some made up??

Just sorted the breaks out not great but will do for now.

Car hasnt got an LSD as 1st though but thats not the end of the world.

Big ends getting done soon and should have another set of wheels off e-bay tonight thats 4 on the car and 7 spare think that might be enough.

Just waiting on a waterpump to take as a spare just incase.

What discs & pads are on it mate?
Posted By: spinking Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 29th Oct 2005 7:49am
Standard disc's (vented) but bidding on fast road pads on e-bay.
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 29th Oct 2005 10:52am
Yes i've just got standard discs on the Prelude with Ferodo DS2500 all round. I've heard that you don't really need drilled or grooved discs round a track do you as long as fast road or race pads are used?
Posted By: spinking Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 29th Oct 2005 12:07pm
When i ran the 325 i used standard pads and disc's which worked fine just take a spare set just incase

Whats with all thye talk about brakes ??

They only slow you down, i want to talk about turbo's and boost levels, they make you go faster think

I have the diff gasket now and LSD Oil, should be sorting this out next week, then i need to do some trial runs to get used to the car a little as its certantly a handfull. Carnt be spinning off on my first lap thumbsup
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 29th Oct 2005 1:07pm
The sprint course-I presume this is timed. Can you do both the sprint and the track or do you have to choose which one you do?
Posted By: spinking Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 29th Oct 2005 1:33pm
You can do both BUT they wont let you do a timed run on any course if you are caught timming you get banned from the track.

1 car at a time on the sprint course so you can play alot more.

Yeah i'm really looking forward to this too. Just hope the weather stays dry for us all.

It's getting booked up quickly now and i've seen a potential few fast cars going on the track by the 'York Track Team'. It doesn't give any indication of what the cars are or the BHP but I reckon they're going to be quick and show us all up!

Well I thought my R33 was too slow for the track, the Prelude a bit too bland & boring so I went for a R32 GT Type M laugh .

Very rare car and mind blowing even in standard form so just wait until I get my hands on it. You would have thought I would have learnt my lesson from my previous history with turbo cars smack .

The idea was to sell one of them but i'll probably end up keeping all 3 of them if i'm honest with myself.

Got a few bits ordered already for it so i'm just hoping it will all be ready on the day. Nothing really needs changing on it but it would be nice to have even more power but not so much the engine dies after the 1st lap.

As long as you dont do something stupid like turn up the boost with no mods and put 100bhp jets off nos in then you'll be ok lol
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 31st Oct 2005 7:13pm
No i'm not getting NOS on it otherwise it's another 3k for an engine rebuild when it blows.

Probably go with Apexi boost controller, larger intercooler, dump valve and water injection in the near future to keep things reliable. Not sure if I can get the boost controller or intercooler installed and set up before the track day so may have to revert back to the crude method of a bleed valve and uprated actuator for now. Tesco 99RON and a couple of tins of octane booster should also help.
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 2nd Nov 2005 10:24pm
I paid a deposit of £50, went to collect the car with the cash and then saw another one I liked better so paid another £950 deposit and collect it next Wednesday hopefully, after it's had it's SVA test, MOT and been registered:

[Linked Image]

It's got the fattest kit i've ever seen on a Skyline but needs the wheels changing. There are 2 different sets of wheels on it for some reason.

It's not going to be going round the track that quick though, I don't think i'm going to have time to do the brakes but it has got adjustable coilovers on it so should handle well (when I get used to it).
Posted By: spinking Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 3rd Nov 2005 12:41am
Trust me if you know how to gear down you dont need breaks told my mate today and he said the same thing what are you bringing and do you have any jobs going.

Do you really have to take a photo license? It's just that I haven't got a photo one, only a paper one!!!!!! Could be a slight problem for me that?????

Not sure about meeting at the Rock yet, may head up on the Friday night and stay over somewhere. 6 in the morning justs sound too early for me but i'll let you know nearer the time.

Looks like you'll have an advantage over me with the suspension, i'm only running standard on the Prelude with slicks. The suspension needs lowering but i've heard nasty tales of the 4ws going wrong when it's lowered and the handling being affected on high speed corners. I heard that there may be an Arial Atom coming on the track too....

Booked a Skyline on the track too just incase something does go wrong with the Lude.
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 12th Nov 2005 10:04am
Are you still coming Jay. You can't buy a car like that and not take it around the track yer pussy. Are you scared of getting beat by the Arial Atom or the Noble think

Just phoned the fella about my car STILL HASNT DONE IT getting alittle mad now need the car back so i can run it in and lower it what an arse had the car since thursday.

Its not that hard to change bigend shells if i had a engine lift would of done it myself.

Just missed out on rs500 wheels and slicks on ebay gutted.
Posted By: evo ad Re: TRACKDAY : Nov 19th 05 : Elvington - 12th Nov 2005 7:46pm
When did he say you're getting it back mate?

My Honda's all ready now. Done the brakes all round and got some slicks on it so i'm praying it doesn't rain.

The Skyline's already got coilovers on it and just waiting on some front brake pads, discs & tyres which should all be here by Thursday. It's probably going to have to run more or less standard boost cause there's no time to get a boost controller fitted, only a bleed valve. Will be taking it very slow around the track in it cause I don't want a 3k bill at the end of the day for a new engine.
