Personal view - if the students can't see that the deal offered is the best, and fairest, they are ever going to get then perhaps they do not deserve to attend Uni.

The key points being that this deal will NOT stop anyone attending Uni because there is no pay back until (probably) several years after they graduate ie will only start (and initially at a low level) when they earn over £21K.

- This said by a parent who has paid up front the full fees (and all living / travel expenses) for a son to attend Uni for getting on for 4 years. The Uni is outside UK so there were NO loans of any sort to provide support. That in my £45Ks worth.

Its pretty pointless having a go at any particular government, or at least the main parties, they only differ mainly on the amount of contribution and on payback, where, when, etc. The worrying part for me is the erosion of what the British peoples have held dear in their way of life. If twenty years ago, the mention of paying for the education of our young ones in the manner of whats happening now, one would have been classed as a lunatic, and yet its happening now, whats next, what does the next 20 years hold, will secondary and grammar school eduction be expected to be financed the same way. Whats next?

I Have a much younger sister in Sixth form college at the moment who is hoping to go to university this year who is now absolutely terrified at the prospect of the amount of debt that she will be in when she leaves uni... She's a very bright girl who studies really hard and deserves the oportunity to study at uni. The qualification and career choice that she has chosen will be of more benefit to society than to herself. My mother is of pension age and my stepfather disabled and they are worried sick about the amount of debt that she is getting herself into. These fees are ridiculous, if you are from a middle class background maybe the prospect of £25k debt isnt so scary as to a family who have less than £9k per annum to survive on.
My own son was hoping to go to university in two years time... he is hoping that the Government doesn't continue to cut ordinary college courses in the area as he says that he will not be going to university at all now...

I am extremely ANGRY and upset with the Government, I feel that Nick Clegg in particular has behaved in a shamefully undemocratic manner and him and his party should be deeply ashamed of themselves. After all when he and his party were up for election many of the students voted for them on the strength that they did not agree with university fees and that education was a right and it should have beenshould be free for all.

I am appalled at the level of violence shown at these demonstrations those who were responsible should be punished and the full weight of the law brought down on them. I am disgusted that Prince Charles and The Dutchess of Cornwall were set upon by an angry mob. I am also disgusted at the level of intimidation used by the Police force during the London demonstrations (I sat and watched the demonstrations live on news24).

Now that they are privatising universities.. how long before it is Sixth Form colleges and secondary schools?
As for doing away with EMA..! how many families in Wirral rely on the EMA to pay for things that their kids need during 6th Form? I do know that while my son was at sixth form college he had lots of extra equipment, books, study guides and educational visits that he needed to pay for. One of which was a 'chemistry lecture' at a university at a cost of £45 which was held by the person who wrote the A Level Chemistry paper, my son told me that this was a discussion/lecture to tell the kids what weas going to be in the A level exam... If he had not had his EMA to put towards this 'educational visit' he would have been at a distinct disadvantage to all those who could afford to.

I really would like to take part in one of the smaller local, peaceful demonstration and show support for all those worried students and parents out there who have been betrayed

That's ridiculous, pay £45 to listen to someone tell students what was going to be in their exam, Jesus at least Dick Turpin wore a mask. Then again if I had to pay that when I was in BSFC 13 years ago I would have had to fork out of my part time cleaning job at £3.50 p/h as my parents didn't have the money. I had the chance to go to uni then but I didn't as I didn't think I would be able to afford it off my own back and paying it back after earning £15000.
Then again every generation probably thinks they were hard done by haha.

You have to think now though, a lot of these students protesting now about these cuts are going to be the very people who earn a shedload of money and vote Tory to protect their large incomes in years to come. I think a lot of them want an easy ride now but when some of them earn their 'megabucks' it will be those students saying why the hell are the government putting my taxes up to fork out for uni education.
Posted By: MerseyMan Re: Student demonstrations? - 11th Dec 2010 3:34pm
p.s that doesn't apply for every student of course smile
Posted By: RUDEBOX Re: Student demonstrations? - 11th Dec 2010 3:57pm
Re EMA, i'm confused. I thought it was stopping in Jan but in the Globe there was an ad from the met college about an open day for 16 to 18 year olds on 10 Jan.
in small print at the bottom it said 'students must apply for ema by 31 Dec ???
Posted By: SUExx Re: Student demonstrations? - 11th Dec 2010 5:04pm
after jan , ema doesnt exsist for new students, but exsisting students will get it for the rest of the school year.

A new alteritive is replacing it which you have to get through the school or collage you are attending

Aaaaaw ok. Thanks.

Life was so simple in the 50s. For the few who's parents could afford it there was the chance to go to univerity if they had passed the 11plus and had progressed well since then. {no such thing as Uni in those days}the rest left school at 15 or 16 and got a job.

I hope people are aware that, in my opinion, that the Government, the police and the BBC completely control what you needed to see, to control your opinions about the "rioters". Government and police 'agents' will often infiltrate these rallies to stare up trouble. That way it takes the limelight off the disastrous tution fee hike that has come in. The police even allowed royalty to be attacked to also show the "riots" in a bad light. There are images all over the news of the police who were hurt but did anyone see pictures of the young student with severe head injuries? Not fookin lightly. They even show baracades and fire raging around the Winston Churchill statue to highlight those bad students.

Its all about public opinion - and sadly the powers that be control it.

Shame they didn't do the rioting in 2004 when Bliar and Brown pulled ladders up on free university education for the kids, the NUS has an up and coming guy in charge and is a wanna be Liebour MP,the future for him is rosy, the future for the kids is costly, his gathering of the masses credentials is now 10 out of 10,the kids are being used by the Liebour politicians, their intentions is to tax you for the privilege until you retire,

Seen from abroad, pictures are superb, the comments well are in English, I think.

BBC news these days is like propaganda in years gone by - they tell us only what they want us to know and to say it is biased most of the time is an understatement
Posted By: davew3 Re: Student demonstrations? - 11th Dec 2010 8:22pm
Never watch the BBC for news, prefer Al Jazeera Eng news or CNN,the BBC is the propaganda arm of the Liebour party.

Sky are 'hysterical' to watch. This one reporter said whilst the camera was filming the crowd smashing up the court. 'its getting dangerous, i'll have to put headgear on'.
He then comes into view and his headgear? A cotton black cap! raftl

It makes me laugh when I see a "rioter" smashing a window surrounded by an army of journalists, all pushing and shoving to take or film pictures! camera no

I'd like to know who does the 'Breaking News' alerts. They're amusing too, if taken out of context, especially.

Paul - if you really believe that then you have my deepest sympathy. What you say is totally unfounded.

Sales of tin foil will be on their way through the roof soon - so many people will be needing them for hats and to cover their walls smack
Posted By: davew3 Re: Student demonstrations? - 11th Dec 2010 11:38pm
I think the students will be old news and forgotton soon, the new enemy will be Climate change or the New World Order or the UN same things, they are expecting all of us to pay green taxes to save us from climate, the scam appears to be finalised at the Mexican Holiday resort of Cancun, just think of the taxpayers money they would have saved if they had used Blackpool, our beloved leaders of the three tribes have deeply involved us in this scam and are now expecting us to pay.

Just for interest

Shame nobody's invented a way for people to have a conference online, no matter where you are in the world - that would save the governments a lot of money in travel expenses.

There's a gap in the market there raftl
Posted By: davew3 Re: Student demonstrations? - 12th Dec 2010 12:13am
But how would our beloved leaders friends be able to fly first class to spend time at a holiday resort in a £1000 a night room and gorge themselves silly at the taxpayers expense,if all that was needed was a video conference call setup costing a few pounds, shame on you for thinking up such things. laugh

Poor Camilla, jabbed in the ribs with a stick. Security kept her calm with sugar lumps and a gentle pat on the nose.
