im putting a square numberplate on the rear of my car, off centre to the left, and with the bumper being a rounded style, the numberplate wont be facing perfectly backwards, it will still be perfectly visable from the rear but the right hand side of the plate will be slightly closer towards you if you were lookking at the plate straight on if that made sense?

just wondered if this is ok with the law etc?

cheers mate, the angle aint a massive one, just need to know incase the police are feeling mean an pick up on something as minor as the angle of the plate

at the end of the day i wouldnt worry about lighting it up mate, if its dark the car behind you will light it up, if you get flashed by a camera it will light it up, and during the day you will see it.

so just get the plate you want make sure its a sensible size and you will be ok.

that little speach came from a traffic police man today who i questioned.

The law states that you must have a rear registration plate fitted and that you must have a rear registration lamp fitted........

Now the crazy part, The registration plate does NOT have to be below the lamp..............

Example : Ford Transit, The rear registration plate is normally fitted to the rear door with the little lamps fitted above it, Thats okay... Some people move the rear registration plate to the top of the door but leave the little lamps in there original place, This is 100% Legal, The law states that you must have the registration plate fitted and the lamps fitted, What it fails to specify is that the lamps must illuminate the Reg plate.....

so i could just move the plate to where i like, as long as the original plate light works, even if its not pointing at the new numberplate position and its pointing to where the numberplate used to be which will be the new smoothed boot?

....if that makes sense eek

sounds about right but really crazy.

me cars getting MOT'd now so it'll be another 12 months before i argue the plate+light position with the tester

could i get away with not lighting the plate up though as long as the origional one is in its place and working?
