Did anyone take a pic of the inflatable dinghy, underwater camera, and the elderly bearded chap outside.
Got talking to him and found he was an Archaeologist or did diving for them all over the world.
His group are hoping to find a roman port on Wirral maybe round the Meols area.
What had me thinking was when he told me about king William using over 200 ships anchored off Hoylake to take his army across to Ireland.
He told he had swum underground from top of Beaufort Road( where the Birkett ends up) to the docks
He was 75 and still did the odd Archaeology dives.

Am only sorry the show was packing up and didn't have more time to chat with him.
Anyone know who he was?

I wasn't at the event, so didn't meet the archaeologist guy you talk about, but it sounds like he might be part of the McDonalds Marine/Wirral Archaeology group. They have a web-site if you're interested in checking.

I can say for certain that they're the people looking for the Roman Fort. smile

I looked at the rib but thought it was RNLI so I just moved on, I was at the archaeology group table, having a look at some shell shrapnel, didn't get chance to talk as they were busy with showing some lady the finds they had on show, I heard certain professors name mentioned over some lead, so I thought not today and wondered off to see the guy at the merchant navy radio operators stand, who I am doing something for, I hadn't realised I'd joined Cameron's big society. laugh

confirmed they were McDonalds Marine/Wirral Archaeology group by TCs' pic with yellow jacket in dinghy.
Fairly sure he said port and not fort they were looking for

You're right derek. Amongst other things, the group are attempting to survey the original port and village of Meols.

That said, I thought Peter France mentioned in one his newspaper articles that a Roman 'fort' may have also existed near Meols. Maybe I just dreamt that bit... laugh
