Ok, so i thought i'd start a project thread to spice the forums up.

This is (I think) a Rally X arcade machine made by ALCA which was a British company.

This is the machine as i got it, the monitor had a broken yolk so i will be replacing it with an LCD monitor.

On with the show...

You've got your work cut out for you there! Used to fix things like this back in the day but it was a case of swapping out the boards or whichever component was fried! If a chip was the only prolem then that was the Japs problem, not ours!

I'm cheating a little to be honest, i'm turning this one into a multi machine for horizontal games.

I have already stripped it.

I do however have an original Williams Joust cabinet which i am hoping to restore if i can find the parts (the pcb's are missing and it's been converted to JAMMA).

Would love one of these. Always wanted to put a PC inside it and use it for emulation of NeoGeo, MAME, SNES, Playstation ETC.

Was never able to convince the missus to let me...

i used to have the same problem, found the stress of pursuasion a little more than the stress of going ahead and doing it -

work cut out for you there though ste

It makes more sense to forget the actual PCB boards and hide a PC inside instead. You can easily set it up so you never see the Windows GUI. You can even get the insert coin bit working with a bit of fiddling. Much less work than salavaging PCB boards which have limited features. Especially games like Street Fighter 2, they will be nigh on impossible to find without paying serious wedge.

You only need a Pentium 4 to play RANE games. Will give you more available time to spruce up the cabinet and get it looking a beast.

Again, Ive always wanted to build one. Perhaps I will do one day.

Heres another machine i am working on.

It's a silverline 26 JAMMA cab which has been lying in a barn for 10 years

It comes with a 26 inch monitor normally but this was smashed so i have replaced it with a 28 inch Hanterex monitor.

I also put whole new wiring, psu and transformer into it.

I will be putting new buttons and joysticks on this machine.

Coin doors, mechanism, marque holding plates, alann screws, kick panel/step, feet, light have all been restored.

Check the pics.

This machine is for sale once ready @ £450 wink

The kickpanel was in a bad way so i have stripped it down and added new rubber, also added an extra kickbar, makes it look 10x better and gives the machine extra protection.

Once this was done i started on the coin door and mechanism.

Bummer, it's sold, i'm not surprised at that price, these retail around £500 each depending what they are.

New addition to the collection waiting to be delivered.

Missile storm, an Italian bootleg of missile command.

This ones special as it originally came from the duke of Lancaster ship when all the machines were rescued back in may this year.

There are only 2 of these known to exist and this is one of them, originally made in 1981 this machine has been on the duke of Lancaster watching the sun rise and set for 30 years since it closed, like a time warp.

Here it is next to the guy in the middle of the screen....

It's not a yard June it's the boundary around the duke of Lancaster ship.

Hi, I didn't rescue it, the credit goes to the guy who I bought it off, he got both of the missile storm cabs and has sold 1 to me.
It was a massive bulk buy which several members put a lot of effort into.
Epic work.

it's probably over in America now, loads of the machines were shipped to other parts of the world.

I see things like that on eBay. There's a couple of kids rides on there now. smile
