Windows crashed so I used Windows 7 home premium 32 bit to reinstall. The original O.S was windows 7 64 bit home premium.Unfortunately I am now getting a message saying that my licence is invalid and I cannot get on to internet.
Any advice much appreciated.
Many thanks
You can use the same product key for 32 bit and 64 bit.
Where did you get your product key from?
Thanks Burger I got product key off back of laptop so I know it is ok
thanks for interest
Try rebooting several times.
If you can do a windows update and reboot again.
Have seen something simular when 7 was new.
Failing that try the reinstall again.
Is the disc that you have used to install windows retail or oem? Product keys are different for each. U need oem.
Some OEM keys are only valid for the version shipped with the laptop.
At work yesterday, we had a 7 x86 machine that the customer had tried to install 7 x64 on. Naturally the problem was a 'non genuine' message.
A fresh install of x86 and the key validated without any issues.
Where is your original 64 bit disc to reinstall. I have had similar experiences when reinstalling off genuine disc. Activated by phone through the Microsoft product activation phone line. Relatively simple process.
Many thanks for all replies most grateful. The windows os was preloaded and I did not do a back-up (will I never learn)
I did ring microsoft yesterday but they insisted the product code was not valid but I will ring again.
Thanks to everybody.
ANY oem disc (same version) will work, dell, toshiba, IBM etc.
