When I first switched to Vista I hated it but it has grown on me now.I use XP at work and find it quite dull.I have a theory that the reason most people dont like it is that it is diffrent and people dont like change.I also think it also has a lot do with what you use you PC for. smile

I think I wiped the thing off mark frown I dont mind xp, but i remembered last time i had it loads of things went wrong, ie the screen jolting when i scroll up and down, I cant resize it to my 32 inch screen, no sound frown other than that I'd carry on using it, does any one have any handy programs to stomp all of this out, my pc tower is a packard bell media centre, I'll get the model number last as im on my mates pc right now.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help everyone as I cant even view porn properly frown

cheers bud, too be honest i think i'll stay xp, thanks to abit of help off mark my jolting screen has stopped but i am still left with 2 major problems, no sound and the picture is too big for the screen, I have spent the past hour messing around with resolution sizes and the wide screen button on my tv but it still wont work, It misses half the tab bar off the bottom and top and from side to side, which is really annoying as i cant see what im doing frown I need matt lfc !
Posted By: Sanchez Re: windows vista - 23rd May 2009 3:48pm
ok, i sorted that, its just the sound now i need, also is there any downloads you can do for xp that vista has, ie the tool bar at the bottom, being able to go straight to the desk top was really handy, and my toolbar at the top when on the net seems to be massive, any way of shrinking that ? I downloaded internet explorer 8 if this helps peeps.

With regards the taskbar and going straight to your desktop, simply right click on the taskbar, and select properties. Then go to the "Toolbars" tab and enable "Quick Launch".

How do you mean the toolbar is massive mate? Get a screenshot of it, then we can tell you how to fix.

LOL, all sorted bar the sound card divers.....I'm notsure how to find them for my pc.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: windows vista - 24th May 2009 5:34pm
Is it as custom built PC or a branded PC? If its branded, what is the manufacturer and model number?
Posted By: phalinmegob Re: windows vista - 24th May 2009 6:35pm
where do your speakers plug in to the pc,you will be able to tell from that whether it is a separate sound card on onboard the motherboard.either way ,open up the pc and check motherboard model or name of sound card and then go to the manufacturers website or google the model number if there is no name.

sound card drivers are usually AC'97, but there are a few out there that aren't.

hopefully you are using genuine windows software, if you are, use windows update as this tends to pick the correct drivers for your pc
Posted By: MattLFC Re: windows vista - 24th May 2009 6:49pm
AC97 isnt a sound card/driver, its a digital to analog conversion codec chipset made by Intel, you still need to obtain the correct driver for the soundcard, as there tonnes of manufacturers who make use of the chipset.

Obtaining an incorrect driver can cause various problems.

Dunno mate, have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling? Was the TV tuner software installed prior to installing the soundcard drivers?
Posted By: Sanchez Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 12:28am
Yer, i tried installing it 2oo times, It installs ok, its just the set up bit :< it worked on my vista frown
Posted By: MattLFC Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 12:32am
Does it say it is compatible with XP at all?
Posted By: Sanchez Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 12:34am
it does, but xp (sp2) what ever that means.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 12:50am
Service Pack 2 mate - XP should be running Service Pack 3 nowadays, you can check if you have this quite easily by using Windows Update.
Posted By: Sanchez Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 12:54am
aha, i wonder if i have that atall, could you link me to the correct download page for this 3 lark please matt, i think thats my prob.
Posted By: MattLFC Re: windows vista - 25th May 2009 2:28am
The links in the previous post will get you there, the Windows Update link is the ideal one to use, but if you want to download it direct, you can use the Service Pack 3 link.
