Although flat-panel TVs are getting slimmer, a display that's so thin it bends in a human hand marks a breakthrough.

Sony said it has yet to decide on commercial products using the technology.

"In the future, it could get wrapped around a lamppost or a person's wrist, even worn as clothing," said Sony spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa. "Perhaps it can be put up like wallpaper."

Id say its pretty cool, will make a huge difference to laptops and mobile phones if the power consumption is low enough.

Ive been reading a bit more into this and it seems its largely based upon OLED technology, so the power consumption should be minumum, in other words it will be ideal for mobile devices!

Ages ago? It is only recently developed and the first ever press release and prototype unit where only released on the 25th May 2007 grin

It hasnt even been taped out by Sony yet, its direct from their labs!

There have been other technologies touting this in the past, but very few have ever had prototypes made (usually they are all idea's and concepts that can never be made into reality), and the one that was made by LG Philips in March/April was nowhere near the standard of this screen, and was based upon very different technology.

This technology and product "is" brand new.

It wasnt this screen then, you havent red my previous post.

And to be honest, monochrome and pseudocolour roll up screens have been around for yonks, they are easy to make, and have VERY little in common with these screens except for the basic principles of how LCD's work.

yes this is really old. there was another company (looks like sonny have bought them) who created an a4 sheet fo this stuff and could display documents and you could turn the page at a press ot he button. this was the next step but as mentions it looks like sony have bought them out.
