I think if he died ww1 era, most records on ancestry.

If he served after ww1 then you have to apply for them with a death certificate.

I will dig out the address.

Some stuff on wikipedia and on the commandos website, yes they had all kinds of different divisions.
Would be good if you could get his service record though there would be lots of interesting stuff.

Good luck anyway!
ps is it a family headstone or war grave?

This link gives you the history of the 45 Commando Royal Marines.

According to Ancestry, Thomas died aged 62 in May 1986, he was born in 1924 (hope it's ok to post this incase anyone has access to military records)

Hi, If i have the right Thomas, he was born in Boston, Lincolnshire. His Parents were Thomas and Annie (nee' Gretton) They married in Basford, Notts in 1920

Your Grandad's siblings
Frank b.1921 in Basford
Kenneth b.1929 in Boston
Constance b.1931 in Boston
Elizabeth b.1934 in Boston

Hope that helps. I can look into your Great Grandparents in more detail if you like. It will be from records i can access so is not 100% unless confirmed by birth/death certificates

Addicted to Ancestry.... moi ??? Oh ok then i admit it smile

John, i'll have a look for you later today and will pm you anything i can find.

It's amazing what you find and who you end up in touch with when researching your family tree. I was contacted by a distant Cousin as we shared the same Great x 3 Grandparents and it turns out she only lives 5 minutes away from me despite our families originating in Yorkshire.

Agree Lisa,i've found cousins from all over the world, its amazing how many people travelled before 1900's.
