Can anyone tell me where castle yard was in Birkenhead ?.

No-one else seems to be answering so i,ll have a go ! Could be at the rear of
the Castle Hotel ( later Royal Castle Hotel ) Green Lane , Lower Tranmere .
This was a big, important building with some dwellings, workshops and
stables behind, Coroners inquests and Court Hearings were held here.
Where you looking for an address or dwellings of ancestors or for a place of
business ?

Thanks for you reply, it was the address for a hay and straw merchant i saw on an old billhead someone showed me, they where also in Liverpool.
looks like the your infomation is spot on.
I will try and lend the item so i can scan it and put in on Here !.

This blow-up from a photo of the old Royal Castle Hotel in the late 1890s shows part of the premises in Castle Yard behind the pub - the name is incomplete in the pic, but according to Directories the premises belonged to Robert Knowles, hay, straw & provender dealer.
