There were all sorts of rumours about Roy Williams going blind and dying, but the last I heard he was alive and well travelling to other parts of the world - I will try and find the reference.

Sadly Joe Soap died in 2008, while everybody feared him I am sure many would also agree we had a lot of respect for the man.

What years did you go to Rocky High Cathcart?

Joe Soap! We all had sideburns (or sideboards) with our "Tony Curtis" haircuts in those days.Joe Soap's favourite 'trick' if you misbehaved was to lift you out of your seat by pulling you up by one of your sideburns. God it hurt, but we didn't complain because we were so tough then. Or so we thought.

That's a favourite saying of Regimental sergeant majors and the like.

I was at Rock Ferry from 1969 to 1976 and remember all of these teachers. Harry Winters, was a Biology teacher while I was there. He was a good man and he did live on the woodchurch estate but I dont think he was ever head. Josh Reynolds was head and then R.C.Elmer took over while I was there.

I was there the same years. Joe Soap came into the Latin classroom in Ravenswood one day and caught me sitting on the radiator pipes. He made me sit there for the whole lesson - ended up with blisters! blush

Strange thing about Wogger Williams and Arthur Beadles was that Wogger looked quite ancient, while Arthur always seemed the super-fit one. However, Arthur died at a very early age (around 50, I think he was).

Some of the other teachers I remember at that time were Cecil Mann, 'Iggy Top', Emlyn Jenkins, 'Scrogger' Williams, and one whose name I can't remember, but he looked the spitting image of Bamber Gascoigne.

Also remember chucking snowballs at the 'Janny'.

You are quite right - Wogga did indeed die in 2002.

Here is a picture of Jack Taylor (Joe Soap) and Roy N Williams (Wogga) taken in April 2002.
