He said overturning Labour's 7,000 majority "can be the start of something different and something bigger".

Labour leader Gordon Brown said the result showed his task was to tackle people's concerns about rising prices.

Asked if he thought he would lead Labour into the next election, Mr Brown said voters had shown they wanted him to steer the UK through "difficult economic times".

But that view was questioned by Labour MP Graham Stringer, who called for a senior cabinet minister to launch a leadership challenge to save Labour from electoral "disaster".

Tory candidate Edward Timpson won 7,860 more votes than his Labour rival - a 17.6% swing from the 2005 General Election.

To be honest, I think "New Labour" ended many moons ago, maybe even as far back as 2003, but certainly when Blair left office. All that has happened since then, is Labour have made it harder and harder for people to live, with more and more taxes and less in return for the working class.

They are taking off the poor to feed the rich, and that is all they stand for right now.

I love the way Labour STILL rant about how great they built the economy and this is why people should continue to vote for them; the economy was already on a massive surge under the old Tory government before Labour came in, even Blair himself admitted he inherited a far stronger economy than he ever expected.

Peoples high standard of living nowdays is not built on a strong economy, it is built on easy-credit and masses of debt, left unregulated by Labour over th years, which the government are now paying for in having to bail out the banks to the tune of £100billion+.

If the economy is so strong, why the need for more and more taxes? Why is it struggling to survive? Why are the working class getting more and more money taken off them? Why wasnt there some form of protection put aside by the government during the supposed "good days" to cater for when the rainy day arrived? Hell, why could they not even afford £14million to give the men and women who put their lives in danger everyday protect our people and our streets, what they deserve!!!

They talk a load of shit, and at the next General Election, Labour imho, will be out. And I hope to god the Tories are bracing themselves, because they arnt going to have a minute for celebration, as they are going to have work their asses off to rebuild a failed economy, rebuild a Britain which has absolutely nothing "Great" about it anymore.

I like the way everytime Gordon Brown is interviewed, he repeatedly says "we have to help the people of the country and ease the burden of rising fuel and food costs" etc... but this is all he fooking does, TALK TALK FOOKING TALK!!

How about actually DOING something for a change, like lowering the tax on fuel and lowering energy taxation!!

He is an absolute pathetic moron and the rest of the party are a disgrace, bar a few, for not bloody standing up and ousting him!!

mad
