MOBOs after party at Liverpool Hilton shut down after violent brawls

Police were forced to shut down the official MOBOs aftershow party as violent brawls erupted at the star-studded event.

Armoured vans and dog units descended on the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool around 1am on Thursday as violence erupted with glasses being hurled and blood splattered on the floor.

Johnny Collins, 26, a DJ from Southport, said: "We were in the VIP area and the music just stopped.

"About 40 people came running in and glass bottles were being thrown. I saw one guy and he was being pelted with glasses.

"It didn’t seem real, I’ve never seen anything like it."

Another witness, who was caught up in the violence but did not wish to be named, added: "Professor Green was performing and people kept trying to storm the stage and it all started kicking off from there.

"A few of my mates had tickets for the afterparty but couldn't get in because they were over capacity so people had clearly gatecrashed.

"There were even girls covered in blood scratching and pulling each others hair. It was terrifying."

The event, which was attended by Alex Curran and Callum Best among other celebrities, was due to finish at 4am. But organisers pulled the plug shortly after 1am amid fears of further disorder.

A Hilton Hotel spokesman added: "Unfortunately there were two incidents reported during the event where the hotel's security team worked closely with police to resolve in a swift and effective manner.

"The inspector in charge on the evening has commended the Hilton Liverpool team for their handling of the situation."

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "The MOBO event at the Echo Arena passed without incident. A number of after show parties were held in Liverpool city centre including the official public after show party at the Hilton Hotel.

"This event became overcrowded and there were some disorder issues. As a result and in conjunction with the management, licensing powers were utilised to close the bars in the hotel at around 1am.

"Police will be speaking to the event organisers and hotel staff to seek to identify those involved in the incident and if any members of the public wish to report any offences."

No-one has yet been arrested.

My mates daughter and friend attended this. They asked whether they could go a fag. Was told yes and their hands were stamped. But then they weren't allowed back in. Turns out it was due to this Ugly Incident. The girls were gutted-proper dampener on their nite but thankgod they weren't there. 'every cloud....silver lining' springs to mind!
I caught the end of Pere Price's show, early hours of Friday.
He said that something had happend and yhat he had asked the police, but they would not coment.
There was nothing about it in the Echo as far as I could tell on the Friday'
What a horrible end to a successful evening. ...!!!!
Yer, i got to hear about it when i went to my mates on friday. She also commented that it seemed to have been 'sssh'd' ie not in the daily post or the echo. I'd 'watched' the girls excitement unfold thru out the day, on facebook. Then got pics of them with various celebs. Truly enjoyed reading about what a ball they were having. Such a shame it ended on such a shitty note. Scumbags ruining it for everyone!!
That really is such a shame.
Hope they remember the good bits of the evening.
Well they bounced back enough, to see Tiny Temper last night! raftl
Not that Liverpool needs any more of this reputation, it doesn't seem to do itself any favours does it? The screening of the World Cup was the same.
no
Typical.
