The new homepage had me checking out my power-weight ratio and my desired ratio,as it works in lbs tho and not KGs its a bit wierd, first i had to enter my power, easy, then comes the hard part, what does an escort weigh in lbs, converted it using my phone,1365KG (escort book kerbweight inc fuel and driver) is 3009lbs,thats 3 tonnes.that means my car has less than 30BHP per tonne, this is correct, but actual BHP per ton,is done in metric tons. Think the power to weight convertor needs changing,ATM its a bit useless TBH.My car actually has 65.93 BHP per ton.Wonder how much i can raise that just by stripping it to death (which i may do in the summer)

Whats your power to weight ratio.Your kerbweight can be found out using this site. And to convert it use your calculator and type in (power)/Weight in tons. IE 90(BHP)divided by 1.365 ton(1365 KGs)

Or spend £3 down wallasey dock road and get your car weight'd

Curb weight is NEVER right, think off the shit such as mud etc stuck to the car and drivers weights vary alot

Scoop look at the top right?

On the home page under the MMC Snap Shot
there is a converter?

Kg to lb

Work that out and you can use the power to weight.
Posted By: scoop Re: BHP per tonne?? - 1st Feb 2006 11:50am
thats what i did mark but it gives u ur BHP per imperial tonne.Which is not the correct way,i can work it out myself but im just saying the convertor would be handy for those who dont know the calculation,

didnt know it only cost 3 quid to weight your car, think ill do this on saturday, find out what my car weighs with just me and the fuel in,and the spare

why don't you have a go at writing a correct online calculator for use on the CW website?

Shouldn't be to hard if you know the actual calculation, seems fairly simple coding techniques.
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 1st Feb 2006 4:06pm
I will look into it as soon as i can,
and hopefully get it sorted.

If you can explain the correct conversions then i can adjust them..

and we can get it sorted.

Weight to ratio =

Weight / BHP * 1000 = BHP Per Tonne

As there are 1000 lb's in a Tonne.

Scoop are you sure that your car weight is 3 tonne?
As scooby's subaru was just under 2 tonne?

------------------------------

The more i read it the more confused you have got me? doh

Any help anyone, as it would be good to get it right. learn

the version on the cw page seemed pretty correct when i tried it.

Instead of being BHP @ the wheels, it should say, BHP @the Fly wheel i think, but the calculation seems to be correct.

My weight is 1200 and my BHP is 130 which is about 109BHP/Tonne
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 1st Feb 2006 4:25pm
Quite possibley,
but the normal conversion is at the wheel
on simular conversion sites.

Your weight and scoops weight have to be simular,
just off body size (cars peeps cars).

Try the same but at the wheels for me AX
not at the fly and see if its a million miles out?

Back later - going out.
Posted By: AX_125 Re: BHP per tonne?? - 1st Feb 2006 4:31pm
my BHP at the wheel is 108, my weight is 1200 my BHP/Tonne is 90. which is BHP/Weight * 1000kg

The calculation is correct, but is the calculation of BHP measured from the wheel or the fly wheel?

the weight of the escort seems to hover around the 1100kg mark.
Posted By: AX_125 Re: BHP per tonne?? - 1st Feb 2006 4:36pm
actually i see where scoop is coming from now.

My car weighs 1200kg

I put 1200kg in to the kg to lbs converter and it gives a result of 2645.5471464lb (which is correct)

I put the lb value in to the BHP/Tonne converter and it gives the following result:

Your Power:Weight Ratio is 1 : 24.5 Or 41 BHP per ton

The BHP/Tonne converter has been setup to measure in KG rather than lbs.

If i put 1200 in to the converter, which is my weight in KG rather than lbs is gives a result of 90 BHP/Tonne @ the wheel (which is correct)

thats the badger. My car weighs 1365 kilos max(apparently) and thats over 3 imperial tonnes. For weighing cars u have to use KGs not lbs..Ill find out what my car weighs this saturday,if anyone knows the exact location of this place dazza suggested

Okay i'm looking at this now,
hopefully we should get it sorted lol...
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 12:41am
I think its looking allright now?

Can you check boys smile

------ Horsepower Converter ---------

Does this mean that the lbs
is also wrong does that need up dating to kg also.

There only guestimates at best but good fun.

Can anyone check please, no guessing please.
Posted By: AX_125 Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 11:26am
The correct forumla for finging our BHP/Tonne using lbs is

BHP/weight in lbs * 2204.622622

At the moment you are using the formula to work our the BHP/Tonne using KGs
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 12:02pm
I done a google search on Power to weight Ratio,
and the formular seems to be BHP/Weight * 1000

When i looked up ton - tonne and the rest.

1000kg = 1 tonne

or

1000lbs = 1 tonne

-------------
I confused even more now.

Can anyone shed any light...

------------
Ax you reckon that if i * by 2204.622622 should work?

doh doh doh help
Posted By: AX_125 Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 12:04pm
Metric and imperial.

The one to use is the KG.
Posted By: AX_125 Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 12:07pm
I would only have a KG calculator and would get rid of the kg to lb converter.

on the lb/bhp/tonne calculator. Change lb text to KG and it is sorted.
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 12:18pm
I changed the text in the power to weight ratio,
last night,

lets forget the converter for now.

just trying to sort the power to weight ratio
converter fist.

I have to fly out, it shall be sorted i hope lol...
Posted By: scoop Re: BHP per tonne?? - 2nd Feb 2006 10:06pm
maybe change BHP at the wheels to BHP at the fly????
other than that its fine
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 3rd Feb 2006 1:20am
Rolling road results are calculated at the wheel on a print out.
As i only have the experiance from peco i asume its ture of all.

After you have the BHP @ Wheel a conversion is then made to give you the FLY.

Front wheel and rear wheel have diffrent calculations.

------------------------------------
Can you check the Power to Weight Ratio
see if its working or if it needs amending.

If its still wrong,
can you please post the data your entering
so i can cross check it.
Post the results and then what it should be.

From this we can get it working,
and confidence restored.

-------
Then we can go over the others smile

Cheers for your help,
As i'm not a Power weight Ratio person,
i need help cross checking the data smile
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 3rd Feb 2006 6:36pm
Okay
Ive got it sussed now smile

Got the numbers from scooby.

Should have a bit of time later to change the sums.

Will post again when done,
so you can sheck it smile
Posted By: Mark Re: BHP per tonne?? - 5th Feb 2006 12:11am
Its working now smile

Power to weight Ratio

Enter the weight in KG
Enter the BHP at the Wheel

And the results are what you should expect.

-----------------------------

Horsepower Calculator

Enter the weight in lbs
Use the converter to change from KG to LB
Enter a Quarter Mile Time

And you get the correct results.

=====================================

If you spot any other querks let me know,
or if its still not right.
Let me know. (I shall slap scooby).

Cheers thumbsup
