well..

i know with the current interest in drifting, the prices of any thing rear wheel drive has shot through the roof.

ive been toying with the idea of getting a drift car for well over a year.
i was considering getting a sierra but couldn't find 1 anywhere for under £500
then a 360 or 340 but again price was about £500.

im trying to get somthing under £200 that will go sideways!
(and i dont mean using makies trays!)

I've had 2 sub-£200 drifters- BMW E28 528i and Carlton GSI.Both were great drifters with LSDs fitted but Carlton only lasted 3 laps of Elvington then the engine seized due to oil pump failure...DOH!

My 360 is up forsale BUT you must be quick as it will be gone friday.

www.trampdrift.com me and chris are the peps on here who could get you sidways as we both started from the bottom (chris get to the top faster though bowdown )

dont let people tell you that you need big power to drift as you dont.

the 360 drifts verwell and for people who know oscar he said i drift it verwell and the boy has skills as he proved in it.

For £200 id be amazed if you even find something that goes forwards raftl

There was a bit of discussion abot this on the SXOC a few days ago. £200 may buy something that runs, but I doubt it'll be fun or RWD - if it is RWD its gonna be a shitter.

£500 should buy a decent 2.0 DOHC Sierra - fit an xr4x4 diff, and away you go.

...the LSD was also an option on the Carlton, and not all have them fitted.
Posted By: MrPhil Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 11:39am
quick look on autotrader shows nothing worth drifting for 5ton, mainly 1.8's, maybe a 2.0 estate.

Posted By: StuyMac Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 11:44am
They come up on Ebay from time to time...

Think I paid £400 for one a few years ago, not that expensive, so wasnt that bothered when I stuffed it raftl

Pity this is so far away..

Manta?
Posted By: StuyMac Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 3:01pm
Ideally you need an LSD to drift.

A welded diff is a nightmare on the road, makes the tyres scrub and the car just wants to understeer or oversteer and its very hard to balance.

XR4x4 Diffs are easy to find, Manta Diffs aint (Only the 400 had them std) and I also belive you need to swap XR diff internals to get them on to a cappa.

Of course you can always stay with an open diff, but its hard to keep the back end out and they can be unpredictable.
Posted By: exploding_penguin Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 3:52pm
idealy i aint gonna be using this as my daily driver so welded is fine by me
Posted By: spinking Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 6:13pm
E30s are cheap as chips there is one down by b/park station its a 325 aswell

£375 i think.

only the mk1 xr4x4 diffs have a lsd as i found out when i bought a mk2 off scooby only to learnt this DOH

the volvo's sold as of friday otherwise you could of had a play in it to see what you though.

there is also acouple on driftworks at the min and go try trampdrift too

Posted By: mrkeefus Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 8:04pm
thats actually quite good, looks a bit like an old shape celica.

There are 76 Piazzas in the UK which are apparently on the road (according to the SMMT) so - WHERE ARE YOU ALL?

This is no joke - of these 76 cars, IPTOC know of around 17 (taxed and on the road that is). So you all must be out there somewhere, hiding under dustsheets, generally enjoyed or just plain used as an everyday hack - AND WE WANT TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE YOU ARE!!!

just got that from the piazza owners club! pretty rare then!
Posted By: chris bmw M3 Re: unlikley drift cars? - 12th Mar 2008 8:16pm
Welded diffs are NOT a nightmare on the road as long as you remember that you are driving a car with one fitted when goin round tight corners or parking etc.You will also not need to clutch kick nearly as much with a welder as a pose to an lsd!
