If you are still on a Sky subcription, you can get one for free.

there was one offered on freecycle before the HD was knackered but it worked otherwise

Tell them you are intending to cancel your service with them; they will ask why, and you simply state that the box isnt working.

9 times out of 10, they will try to resolve the problem for you, especially if you are on multiroom, because you are generating them a decent amount of revenue.

There is the slight chance they may just go ahead and cancel, but it is very rare this happens, and of course you can change your mind at any time - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

At the end of the day, it will cost them a nominal fee to send an engineer with a replacement refurbished box for you, and it will potentially generate a LOT of revenue in the future, revenue that they dont want to lose in such a mature market and with so many alternatives available. They have thousands of boxes spare anyway thanks to the take-up of HD.

It's amazing how much power you can yield over Sky and the like when it comes to churn rates.

Yes you do have to pay a extra £10 a month for HD they will also charge you £49 for the HD box and £30 (normally £60)for standard set up when you take Sky Multiroom (another £10 a month)and move your existing box to another room.

OK, phoned sky, told them I wanted to cancel because I wasn't willing to pay for a repair or new box when Virgin would give me a free box, the aksed if I would be happy to stay with sky if they could arrange a repair free of charge, I said ofcourse, so they sent out an engineer who just swapped the box for a new one free of charge.

and Yes I am out of my 12month contract/warranty but still supscribed to TV with all entertainment packs & Disney Cinemagic but no sports, movies or other premium channels, Broadband unlimited, Phone line rental and unlimited SKY talk. No multiroom.
