Mmmm insurance thinking here i'd go for somethin around the 1.4 engine wise.
Is there any preferences too how old it would have to be cos you can get any car for that price but some would be really old.
My 1st thinkin for you is something like a 306.

Buy a pug 106/saxo/ax, keep it for a few years and save up for something with a bit more power to it.

buy a little 1.1, cheap on insurance and idea for a first car, there's plenty of 106's, saxo's etc for sale. they're nothing special but they'll do everything you'd need your first car to do

Start off with a 1.1 nova or fiesta of similar, maybe a ford ka, these are going for approx £1500 nowadays and think they are all newer than p reg. This will offer you cheep insurance too which is the first thing you need to consider. Build up your no claims for a few years then move on to something bigger and better. It does take time and you can just jump into a rapid car straight away (look at me, im still paying £1300 insurance with 5 years no claims and im an old get) Im sure people will give you the same insurance advice as i have. Good luck car hunting lol

and as for insurance, ive got a 1.1, and everyone gave me a quote of approx. £1600, but I tried sainsuburys and it cut £700 off and my quote is £900 at sainsburys, so for cheap insurance, go to sainsburys, try an online quote and see
