Don't be angry, they are thinking about this as a benefit to patients. My mum is lucky she lives in North Sefton and if she had any other cancer she would have to travel to Clatterbridge, as it is she is being treated at the Marina Dalglish centre at Fazackerley, it's much easier to get to, and when you are undergoing chemotherapy or radio therapy a long journey is that last thing you need or want.
Liverpool is easier to get to for many people from the Wirral than CLatterbridge is anyway, it's hardly central.
I think it would be better if they could share the facilities and benefit both sides of the river.

Clatterbridge also serves North Wales and up to Manchester - what about the distance those patients will have to travel - liverpool is hardly central for them If the Oncology is world renowned, why move it? If it goes, what next, shut Clatterbridge totally?

Manchester patients have a hospital there, my mum was offered the choice of Clatterbridge or Manchester, then she secured a place at the MD centre.
Im just saying it's not bad it's just trying to accommodate the most people, they should be able to find a way of sharing the facilities across various locations.

Fazackerly Hospital already seem to have a Oncology Dept. 'connected to Clatterbridge- is this where they propose to move all Wirral based Oncology to? If so, I would be disgusted. Its an hour trip, one way via train.

If you share the facilities, you share responsibilty which I guess will in the end thin out the level of care. Its a specialist oncology unit, I see no reason to move it especially when they are doing such a good job there. What if people dont want to move with the job - will there be the same level of expertise?

Money in it for some one, don't know where, but I'll bet there's some brown envelope swapping going on!

It should never have been closed as much as it has been IMO. It was a much better hospital than APH can EVER be!
I know they are replacing one of the Imaging machines in the Nuclear Medicine Department as I need a bone scan at the Oncology Centre and have been offered 3 other hospitals for it because my scan can't wait.
I was born in Clatterbridge, had several operations there as a child and they saved my life in my teens so I have nothing but praise for Clatterbridge.

I am really disgusted with what is happening to the hospitals in Wirral, there has recently been news that the vascular department is to close at arrowe park, so any major surgeries requiring vascular surgeons will now have to go to the countess of chester hospital, I also heard on the news that arrowe park hospital was closed due to norovirus but that 'the women and childrens hospital on the same site was't affected', when did theysneak that through and split the maternity unit from the rest of the hospital? Is this about seperating the non-profit making parts from the rest? I can't believe that Clatterbridge ocology is going to vanish too, its known countrywide for being a center of excellence, exactly how much of wirrals health service is going to be left? Just shows exactly how well thought of the people of Wirral are by this conservative government!!

Anyone on the Wirral can get to Clatterbridge faster than they can get to Fazakerly - not sure how Fazakerly is easier to get to? Doesn't make much sense really.
I was diagnosed with cancer in January this year, had all my Chemo and tests/treatments/scans e.t.c. up at Clatterbridge.
There's no way I would have been able to cope with the trip home from Fazakerly after the Chemo sessions - not a chance. Only just lasted from Clatterbridge without collapsing before getting home.
As far as I was aware, they told me in March that there was a new centre opening over in Liverpool but it wasn't going to affect Clatterbridge. They were supposed to be like sister hospitals running alongside each other. Not sure what's changed but it'll be a damn shame and a huge loss if they do move it from Clatterbridge.
