They wanna stop having two way traffic in single tunnels! Pathetic, if they want to do work on the tunnel they should stop using it altogether and use the Birkenhead one whilst work is being carried out. But isn't the Birkenhead tunnel two way, ALL the time? There is plenty of room to maneuvere in the Birkenhead tunnel if there is an issue. In the wallasey tunnel there is nowhere to go.

they where doing a thing in the tunnel something about (what would happen if there was a earthquke) that could by why there was only one tunnel open ? That was in the ununsed branch of the Birkenhead Tunnel, nothing to do with the Wallasey Tunnel. The reason the 2nd Wallasey pipe would have been closed was either cleaning or works.
