Just noticed the other day that the Pool Inn (by traffic lights on corner of Poulton Road) is shut down, presume its been hit like all the other pubs. Wonder how it got its name?

Maybe it had something to do with the old "Wallasey Pool" nearby, before the docks were constructed. Used to be a tidal inlet all the way up towards Junction 1 of the M53. Just an idea........... someone will hopefully have something more definitive

Yeah that could be it, it makes sense.
Wonder which pub will be the next to go?

the old 'Pool Inn' was a quaint two storey building with high gables. It was probably built at the end of the 17th century, facing what would become the Penny- Bridge. The face of sandstone bricks was lime washed. On the opposite side was the wallasey pin- fold, where lost animals were placed waiting to be collected by their owners. The wal around the pin fold was semi- circular and was one of the oldest in the town. The old inn was demolished in 1900. The present pub is not quite on the same site.
