lol well folks...am back from holiday..and things arent so great!
picture the scene : I was lying by the pool with stunning gfriend wearing her tiny bikini happy and all is good with the world.
I mean..beer, fit gfriend , sun..and no work...life is good!

I then get a call from the A+E consultant

..er hello..we have looked at your Xray..and it seems that you might have broken your neck at C5, and we missed it at the time could you come back in and have a scan please...

....er not really as im in spain..

well when you get back could you drop by...in the meantime dont go bungee jumping or anything like that...

...gulp...ok

I got back wed am...and spent 8 hrs in A+E.
At one point they thought id broken my ankle, knee, lower back, right hand and neck.
Ct scan of my neck wasnt entirely clear but they "think" is isnt broken...but hand probably is..will have to wait til tues to find out.
Im so pissed with the medical world right now...and fkin consultants who have no manners or people skills and wont make decisions.
Im bored of recounting the story already..and still fkin sore!!!

No news on my audi yet...they still arent sure whats gonna happen with it..but got the new silver one back for now so at least i got wheels- not that im travelling very far or doing much at the mo!

phew..rant semi over as im too sore to carry on lol!

The payout for a claim like that does not come out of the NHS purse. Consultants have insurance for such eventualities and therefore pay for their own payouts via their premiums. Their Legal Fees are generally covered by the BMA which also does not come out of the NHS purse.

Even when I was working in the NHS, qualified staff were advised to take out personal insurance in the event of a law suit for negligence or malpractice.

Hope that helps Dave thumbsup

Any idea which consultant you saw?
Usually a good bunch in there but they are very under-staffed at present so the pressure in there is like - well - a pressure cooker? No excuse for a blunder like that though.
As for the negligence PJ's right - they all have insurance with the Medical Defence Union, its expected as part of the job to take out this kind of insurance.
As a member of staff now quite involved with medical staff competencies I am sad to hear that you got as far as Spain before you got that call.
The good news is though that Wirral Trust has a very good standard of teaching and training - one of the top in the Mersey region. All grades get competency testing now - even the senior staff are getting appraisals which they all used to frown upon. But they cannot get away with it any more because of the NHS Litigation Authority which is tightening up on these things. If we don't get it right they fine us heavily - in the region of millions.

*Please note I do not work in the Trust's PR dept - not sure we even have one!

Well..i got the usual the docotor that signed off on the lateral impact was a junior doc..and he shouldnt have etc..hes "been spoken to" and "the exercise has now been used as a learning experience for all the junior docs " bullshit patter.
As it stands though if its not broken..(which they are seemingly now trying to tell me despite having seen the x-ray which shows a definite change on the morphology)..i dont have any sort of claim against the doc in question
its not about the money..its about i now have a dodgy neck...that should have been picked up first time and not nearly 2 weeks after!
Its my body and ive got to live with it and the consequences of the dmage for the rest of!
im sick of them dodging the questions and telling me to go back to the Gp...(who knows fk all about neck trauma!) and he will deal with it...i mean WTF!!

Nice comparison! he may have broke his neck which could have led to death or paralysis but its like your car getting clamped!!!!!!!

p.s dont refer to yourself as one, you look a tad daft!!!!!
