Seventeen down, three to go - Superleague Formula’s ambition to have 20 football-themed 750hp, V12 single-seaters racing at Donington Park at the end of this month came a step closer with the announcement that Liverpool have signed up.
The Merseyside club will join Tottenham Hotspur, Glasgow Rangers and two of the teams beaten in European championship finals by the Reds - AS Roma and AC Milan - on the starting grid.
“We are always keen to develop our range of commercial partners and working with Superleague Formula gives us an excellent opportunity to do that,” said Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC Commercial Director.
“This also provides an interesting and new dimension for Liverpool Fans to support their team in a different way and in a different sport. The opening race at Donnington is a great chance for our UK based fans to see the car in action and the short and long term plans to grow the series will reach out to our fanbase globally.”
Superleague Formula President and CEO Alex Andreu believes the addition of Liverpool will significantly boost the profile of the new championship.
“As a global sports brand, Liverpool is one of the biggest names in the world,” Andreu said.
“Donington Park is only a couple of hours from Liverpool and we are really looking forward to hearing fans break into “You’ll Never Walk Alone” at a motorsport event.” clicky Superleague Formula: Liverpool FC become latest team to join

Havent seen the livery for Liverpool, but some of the others look really good. Its an interesting idea, teaming motorsport with football, but its certainly not the first time its been done. The Old Lister Storm GT cars used to be sponsored by Newcastle United...

Be a bit boring the colour scheme that I reckon.....Mainly white with a blue line here and there... Plus, I think only teams who get into europe can qualify

A liverpool FC Race car. Im sure they could remove the wheels fast enough in a pit stop - wether they would go back on though.... Personally I cant think of anything more tacky - just shows how commercial the team has now become.
