Later 6R4s used a 2.5 V6 as due to homologation restrictions the 3.0 engine was limited to how far you could modify it, where as the 2.5 was unrestricted and where actually quicker then the 3.0 cars.

Rover bought the rights and started to produce the engine over here, it want in to everything including boats. For the 6R4, they cut two cylinders off, made it quad cam (over head) and fitted it with throttle bodys. After the 6R4 project, the new modified engine rights where sold to JAG, who put it in a few of their older race cars before a bit more development and it went into the XJ220.

I was reading up on them once, and they were actually going to scrap plans for the metro 6r4 and build a maestro 6r4 as they were bigger and could handle the power better. They did make a austin mini based around the 6R4, it was called the 4R2 mini. Don't know what the 4R2 stands for, if 6R4 is anything to go by it means: 4 cylinder, rear mounted, 2 wheel drive. This project was scraped i think as i can't get much info on them. I have started my own 4R2 project as well, but it has a rover V8 at the front, rear wheel drive. It's gonna have to be called the 8FR (you heard it here first) I have some pictures of the chassis and shell conversion (yes the shell is standing on it's end) (tho this is all that has been done so far as i have been gathering parts for my 6R4 project). And for all you tech heads, a sketch of how i designed the chassis.

Which engine are you going to use for the 6R4 replica?

3.5 rover V8, with 4X down draught webers, custom alloy inlet manifold, custom exhaust manifold, full ARP bolt set (internal), full stainless bolt set (external), fully balenced, extended water pump from hotrod for a double belt pully and custom made sump, (possible dry sump, if i can find some pumps and can be arsed making it) so that the engine can sit lower in the chassis.
