In the 1851 Census for St. Catherine's Ward ? Tranmere. I presume it must be somewhere near St Cath's Hospital now ?

Eleanor Langley aged 52 is a Beer Seller at the White Lion Inn.

Any ideas from all the bright sparks on WikiWirral? :

Usually, someone referred to as a "Beer Seller" was landlord of a Beer House rather than an Inn. (A Beer House was licensed to sell beer and porter but not spirits).

A William Langley was victualler of the Eagle and Crown in Upton from before 1841 until about 1856 (his wife, Maria then took over for the next 10 years). I wonder if he was related to your Eleanor Langley?

Clever Lad !
I will go back to Census of 1841 and 1851..& let you know if I think they are related...( I was just concentrating on Eleanor Langley !)
Many thanks for your post.

The 1841 Census gives Ellenore Langley, wife of James Langley (agricultural labourer). They had 7 children ranging in age from 3 to 15 and lived in "Main Street", Tranmere. Unfortunately the 1841 census doesn't give place of birth.

The 1851 census doesn't give road names/numbers for this area.

4 buildings before it is a house called Rose Cottage, and this is just after Church Terrace.

16 entries in the other direction is "Prospect Place".

Fantastic reply !
Not sure I'm on the right track yet...so many questions about the Wirral,I would like answering !
Can anyone tell me about Ice caves/houses that are left ?

DAFT question to most ?

Before, " Refridgeration" ..how did they keep/produce ice ?
I think, there are, only one/two places left on the Wirral that have Ice Caves ?
Irby and somewhere in Heswall ?

My thanks..

They used to tow iceburgs, break them up and sell the ice lumps.
