A mates son was sacked for abusing firms time which upset me because i got the little prick the job in the first place. His job is on computers and his crime was going on stupid facebook and different forums etc, nothing to do with what he gets paid for or what he's suppose to be doing. I fully agree with his boss, though not wanting to see anyone lose their job i thought it was a bit harsh. Being on good terms with his boss i was able to get his sacking rescinded and he's on a months suspension, i hope he learns a lesson. He's an intelligent lad, but sometimes i think he has the brains of a rocking horse, he still can't understand what harm he has done.
Though his firm are not looking to make people redundant in these differcult times, there are plenty who are and whats easier than to jump on someone whos doing what their not suppose to in the work place. I know it goes on alot in offices where computers are concerned, just be careful and don't give them an easy way of getting you out the door.
Did they give him a warning before sacking him?
Pretty harsh if they just came out with it. Had he been warned, then its his own stupid fault.....
Let hope he does better in the next 6 months.
Wise words Uncle Bert!. A lesson to us all.
Apparently they are all warned on starting, brain dead springs to mind.
I hope nobody checks out my surfing habits!

I'm surprised you can access gay porn in work!
Nice one Bert. Just hope he appreciates it. What do they say about youth being wasted on the young?
Sounds like they wanted to get shut of him and used the first excuse.

That may well be, but we all get paid for doing what were suppose to and not for doing things unrelated to the job, workers leaving themselves wide open is not a good idea, especially in today's climate of job losses.
Some years ago I got my son in law a job where I worked - after a while the factory manager (a friend and work colleague) asked me to tip him off that he and others where playing football for about 2 hours during their 50min lunch break - this I did
Next time I visited my daughter - he was in his usual position horizontal watching football - he looked up and said to me "we play cricket every lunch time now at the back of the factory where no one can see us!!!!
What a nice man you are burt , I hope you can get him to understand ,Sounds to me it has not registerd what its all about hope he learns soon eh top man anyway june
He should have been sacked for being on facebook.
The boss was in his right to sacked him.
Maybe and Maybe he learn his lesson from doing this...????
There aren't many people who work flat out 100% of the time for their employer - it just depends on your visibility whether you get clocked or not - computer use is visible.
When I found out about wikiwirral years ago I couldn't stay off it in work
