Sainsbury's and Tescos recall ravioli and macaroni cheese over rubber 'health risk'

Sainsbury's and Tesco have recalled some of their tinned foods after fears they contain rubber.

Shoppers across the UK are being advised to take back the affected products, which pose a "possible risk to health", for a full refund.

The Foods Standards Agency has said both supermarkets are taking the action as a "precautionary measure". All the affected goods were manufactured by a Belgian company.

The products being recalled are:

Sainsbury's beef ravioli in tomato sauce 400g. Best before end: January 2019. Product code: 121811
Sainsbury's macaroni cheese 410g. Best before end: January 2019. Product code: 125901
Tesco beef ravioli 400g. Best before end: December 2018. Product batch codes: LB3048 81724C, LB3049 81724C
Tesco everyday value beef ravioli 400g. Best before end: April 2019. Product batch code: LA146 84824C

A Food Standards Agency statement said: "If you have bought any of the above products, do not eat it. Instead, contact the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

"No other Sainsbury's and Tesco products or batches are known to be affected."

A Sainsbury's spokesman said: "It has been brought to our attention a small number of the above products may contain pieces of rubber.

"As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought these products not to consume them, and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury's store where they will receive a full refund.

"No other products or date codes are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused."

A Tesco spokeman said: "We have been made aware that a small number of Tesco Ravioli cans may potentially contain pieces of rubber. We are recalling affected batch codes as a precautionary measure."

I was just checking the difference Tesco beef ravioli 400g and Tesco everyday value beef ravioli 400g, thinking they were the same product but with different labels.

But the value one contains 6 grams more sugar, and 4% more salt.
How would you tell the difference between a piece of ready meal macaroni and a piece of rubber anyway? They'd both taste the same.
