Not sure if it has anything to do with it but about 20 mins ago there was a huge orange flash in the sky and what sounded like an explosion 2 seconds before, seemed to be over heswall way.

Mine have been flickering quite a bit, thought it was me, seemed to be everytime I clicked the mouse, just coincidence unless I somehow have the power to control all of the lights in Wirral with my mouse.

Sorry, you're probably right. Although maybe if what Garygarage said is correct, it was actually down to Aliens...

Posted By: nissangti Re: flickering - 16th Feb 2012 7:45pm

Ours where flickering like mad about 6 but hasnt done it for ages
Posted By: KevinFinity Re: flickering - 16th Feb 2012 8:18pm
It was happening here in Moreton Before as well. The power must have dropped out for at least half a second at one point. No problem for lights but not good for desktop pcs or other sensitive electronic devices.

Two flickers in Greasby, just enough to knock the radio onto standby but not confuse the microwave clock. Wonder what brought the electricity line down in Heswall? Hope no-one was hurt.

I was told it made the till restart in our place, shouldn't have done, must have been a hell of a jolt, have to check the UPS when I go in and see why it didn't take over.

No doubt tomorrow will be a busy day for blown PSU's

Yes, I noticed it about 6.15 - 6.30 ish. PC stayed up and running though, which is usually a sign that it was only a very short outage. New Brighton.

I always assume the worst thing to do is to assume the worst. Perhaps the cables were just tired?
Posted By: diggingdeeper Re: flickering - 17th Feb 2012 11:03am
Quite unusual for cables to get tired. The cables and connections are checked regularly using infra red cameras. Any physically weak points are also usually electrically weak and show up as hot spots. The photography is done by helicopter which enables very quick checking of large amounts of the network and has the flexibility to examine hot spots more closely there and then

Has anyone any idea what happened and where ? ie. Underground cable going pop or HV overhead line breaking/falling to earth. To affect such a large area (tripping breakers/flickering) it must have been a main feeder (?).

What did the electrickery company say ?

Anyone ?

"Electrickery" - who are you, Catweazle?!

I looked last night but couldn't see anything on the web-sites.
