Is there a new train on Merseyrail. We were walking the dog this morning and what appeared to be a new type of train set went past, going from New Brighton. It was very very quiet (quieter than the new track would suggest) and specially decorated. The driving cabs appeared much more square than our present "old banger"

If it was yellow it was probably a Railtrack rail head cleaner. I saw this operating from West Kirby at 20.30 on Tuesday.

If you want to know the number doesn't that make you a train spotter ?

It's probably just the train that's been given the new covering. The Beatles museum have had a 3 car unit decked out in the same style as the ones they did for the 2008 capital of culture.
There's already been lots of spotters out looking for it on the network armed with cameras, thermos flasks, salmon paste sandwiches and note pads.

The current train stock is due a complete overhaul in 2 years time, although they did appear to have one recently I think it was actually some time ago.

it's what the "essential maintenance work" was that they were doing the other week, the new tracks is what's making the trains quieter not the trains themselves.

I never seem to hear noise of trains, when i m on them could be with living close to a station or the music that drowns it out

Do you mean the ones with the green seats 3 on one side then 2 on the other?

If so they are the same trains as now just had a refit.
