When you switch it on nothing happens, I think it is called the black screen of death. I cannot get it to load in safe mode or do anything
Posted By: MattLFC Re: The Den - 15th Oct 2010 2:57pm
Do you mean it attempts to load into Windows, or do you mean it simply does not power on at all?
Posted By: sparky Re: The Den - 16th Oct 2010 3:45pm
TRIES TO LOAD VISTA BUT THEN JUST A BLACK SCREEN

Posted By: TheDr Re: The Den - 16th Oct 2010 9:39pm
Okay, if it turns on, shows the POST screen, then goes black 9 times out of 10 it's the hard drive.

As it tries to load from the hard drive, and fails, the screen goes black, to check this just take out the hard drive and try again, if you get the POST screen and then an "operating system not found, press any key", or similar, and this is further than you got before, hard drive is probably goosed and needs replacing.

The laptop needs a new hard drive and it is costing £116.00, I found a website called Proper Geeks and they came to the house and took it away to be fixed.
Thanks to everyone for all the advice.

How Much !!!!

That's a (little) bit expensive, a new hard drive, even a decent (500GB) SATA should be about £50, and a full install including all the drivers, updates and anti-virus should cost (well, we charge) £35, and normally it's same day.

Oh well, at least it'll be done smile

You were warned no

You can't even trust these people can you?
If you've ever used a credit card on that machine your details are all on it, oh and I'd change your passwords if I were you too.
Some people, honestly no
