Anybody got any telex power supplies they don't need :),I need 2 or failing that 2 mains transformers 240v ac primary 80v-0-80v ac secondary to make up some, they are needed for the Merchant Navy Radio Museum at Fort Perch Rock, they have 2 Creed 444 /BT model 15 teleprinters they would like to show working, usual surplus places have been checked out.

I've a spare ex-Met Office transformer. 250v ac primary but 50v ac secondary. Would it do ??

It's quite a chunky item. Used for power supply to anemometer mast in garden. Usual Ministry "bombproof" build !

Bardwells have some 43-0-43 transformers in, two of these with the outputs in series will give you 86-43-0-43-86, they are dead cheap as well!

The 80 volts for teleprinters is not that critical it is just for the 20ma current loop.

Also our mains has dropped to 230V so these will be pretty close.

Your welcome Dave. The tran. that dd suggests is maybe a better bet than mine. Whereas you can have mine for free, the postage would be horrendous as being MOD type stuff, it's built like a brick outhouse! Mine is also 30v short of what you want ideally.

Hope your friend finds the right gear eventually. There's something about the old Telex stuff clattering away. The word is "quality" !!

Sent an email so am waiting to find out, even had a mate who was on holiday in California look,he contacted a scouser friend who works for a major company in Silicon Valley and he spent 2 hrs searching all the transformers in a local surplus shop but same problem not much being made over 25v these days, don't know Pinz if your tranny is is 50v-0-50v then it may be possible to turn the t/printer into single current loop as usually the bias spring is fitted to the magnet frame for that purpose,it is lovely kit not made any more but still used by some companies as the page it prints is a legal document unlike fax.
