Does anyone know why an area of woodland in Rock Park, at the Refreshment Rooms end, has recently been cleared of vegetation?

As there is a pipeline taking crude oil from the oil terminal to Stanlow running under this land to which acceess may be needed for maintenance etc. it seems unlikely that building work will be taking place there, and I can't find anything on the Wirral planning search pages either. What sort of lunatic clears woodland, destroying natural habitat without a good reason for it?

Any information would be much appreciated.
