A MAN was hospitalised following a knife attack in Birkenhead on Saturday night.

Police were called at 10.25pm to Charing Cross, where a 37-year-old man was found outside Yates wine bar with injuries to his back and buttocks 'consistent with a knife being used'.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, with his condition today described as 'stable'. Parts of Birkenhead town centre were cordoned off by police this morning.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "It is believed the man may have been involved in an altercation with a group of males outside a nearby bakery.

Taped off today for forensics

I'm glad it sounds like he is going to survive the attack anyway.

Was it the cook?
