Anyone know why the helicopter is over Tranmere/Rock Ferry?

It was over Pensby at 2.30 this morning for approx. 30 minutes.
Don't these people realise that people like to be asleep at that time of night !

Bob,are you so totally insular that you can't conceive that there may have been a legitimate reason for the police helicopter being called out,i.e. upholding the law and keeping the likes of you safe and free from harm?

There I was, thinking Bob had a sense of humour.

It's switched off between 11p.m. & 7a.m.

Ahh, we are just in time then :-))

I'd be a bit worried if I were in one of these things. These days a drone trailing a steel wire could bring one down very easily.

But I guess it won't be long before these clattering contraptions are replaced by police drones anyway. I believe helicopters are not allowed lower than 500 feet, but a drone is not restricted in this way.

Visions of every 1984-esque movie made.

Well, I think Orwell got it wrong. There seem to be many millions eager to plaster all the boring details of their lives all over the internet via social media, rather than trying to avoid surveillance.

I suspect being continuoiusly watched by drones would be positively welcomed by these folk.

But the economics of the situation will prevail eventually. A Helicopter costs millions a year. A drone which can actually do a better job from the cops point of view, costs a negligible fraction of this.

Only about 4/5 weeks ago, there was a similar happening in Pensby /Thingwall. Remember ? About 11pm, helicopter hovering for what seemed about an hour?
That time, someone in the area had been broken into and held up at gun point, so maybe it's best you don't sleep at all Bob!!

...someone in the area had been broken into and held up at gun point...

And the contribution of the helicopter in resolving this incident was....?

Because they escaped and were still thought to be in the vicinity.Thermal imaging!
Posted By: Excoriator Re: police helicopter - 21st May 2014 5:59pm
Bet they didn't catch them!

I recall the helicopter with 'thermal imaging' camera being deployed over new ferry when a twelve foot pet python escaped, unsurprisingly, with negative results.

Nobody had told the cops that snakes are cold blooded!

I know the reason why it was out, it was looking for a guy with an air rifle and hunting knife on his back walking along the Wirral coastline at around 6pm on the 17th with a couple of kids and woman following.

One woman revealed troublemakers had even become so desperate but confident in her area that an ashtray full of cigarette stubs on her garden table was stolen by an opportunistic thief.
