Local Housing Allowance Rates
The Rent Service has provided Wirral Council with the following Local Housing Allowance rates, which are effective from 1 April 2013 and will not change for 12 months.

These rates will be used for calculating all new claims from 1 April 2013.

Number of bedrooms
Shared accommodation rate

(including single under 35's)

1 2 3 4
Weekly LHA rate (£) 64.90 86.54 103.85 126.00 141.51
Monthly LHA rate (£) 281.23 375.00 450.00 546.00 613.21
The rates shown above relate to the number of bedrooms required by the household (for example, if a household needs 3 bedrooms their Housing Benefit will be based on the 3 bedroom rate regardless of how many bedrooms the property actually has). The maximum bedroom allowance for Local housing Allowance is 4 bedrooms, even if you need 5 bedrooms or more.

Bedroom allocation is as follows:

One bedroom each for:

every adult couple
any other adult aged 16 or over
any 2 children of the same sex
any 2 children regardless of sex under age 10
any other child (includes foster child/children of approved foster carer)
non resident carer
A bedroom is allowed for a non resident carer who stays overnight on a regular basis to look after a person who requires care in their home and is in receipt of either Disability Living Allowance middle or higher rate or Attendance Allowance. A spare bedroom must be available to qualify for the additional room rate.

A room is allowed for a foster child, provided there is a spare room available and you or your partner are approved foster carers.

Sons, daughters, step-sons and step -daughters in the armed forces who live with their parents will still continue to have a room allocation if they are away from home when deployed on operations.
