I've got this down as Heswall Village, but just can't place it

It must be Heswall Lower Village.

Depending which way we are coming from of course, I think the Church could be on the left and the pub on the right.Maybe the pub wasn't there then. Need to see some others of the Lower Village to maybe pinpoint the bend in the road.
Will have a look.

Nice one Granny

It could be the old 'Children's Church' building, which was right outside the main church. Have a look at this link Pablo, see what you think.

You're a genius Granny, well done

It's Elder Cottage, Heswall.

Dating back to the late 17th century, it was the original school and was demolished in 1954 for road widening.

I think that the smaller building (as seen in granny's picture) was the reading rooms. Elder Cottage was located behind this smaller building.

Not such a genius Pablo! The eternal one has come up trumps again. To be honest I'm quite relieved you've come to help Geekus. Would this then be at the bottom of School Lane, Lower Heswall? You could put it on the 'school' forum too Pablo.
Well done Geekus... you have a glass ball me thinks?

The bottom of School Hill, opposite the Black Horse (Heswall Hotel).

Just seen a similar picture for sale on ebay if anyone's interested. It's from 1932:

Pablo's picture is almost certainly earlier.

Does anyone have any photos of the Maternity Home approx late 60's. My first son was born there.

Was that the one in Oldfield Drive?

You could try checking the Heswall Magazine website. You might find something in one of the back-issues:

I'm pretty sure there must be some photos out there. Cricketer Ian Botham was born there, if I'm not mistaken. A few other famous people as well.

Softshoes, it seems to be recorded as Heswall Maternity Hospital (not home) which might help with your search a bit more. Definitely Oldfield Dr. not the sanatorium on Telegraph Road.

Thanks granny, just found this on the Heswall Medical Center site.

In the 1960’s a lot of new homes were built in Pensby and consequently there was a considerable increase in the need for Obstetrics and Paediatrics. The Practice, along with other local practices, was fortunate in having the Heswall Maternity Home, “Oldfield”, in which to book and attend patients in labour; home confinements were also undertaken as required.

I googled Heswal Maternity Hospital and found a site that suggests the sanatarium changed role at one point. Googling the sanatarium I found this page:

There's a bit more info here as well, if anyone's interested:
