Birkenhead Maternity Hospital, Grange Mount
This was established in 1846 as the Birkenhead Ladies Charitable Institution and Lying-in [maternity]Hospital. The title of 'Birkenhead Maternity Hospital' started in 1913. it closed in 1978. it was demolished in 2001 for safety reasons, despite being a Grade II listed building. The records of births are now held at the Wirral Museum in Hamilton St, Birkenhead.

Nice one Chris. You can see it now across the top of the door. I wouldn't have got that one
Both my little darlings (!) were born at what was known as Grange Mount. It was small compared to todays Maternity facilities, with the whole place only concerned with the mothers and their babies, which meant true individual care. The food was fabulous and when you left, after a period of 5-10 days, you were waved off at the front door.
Hope im right but here is the present day place:
my daughter was born here in 1972 at the time you had to stay in hospital for 6 full days it was wonderful for the mums the staff were great .
That photo is Grange Road West. The hospital was in Grange Mount. (I was born there about a hundred years or so ago LOL)
The Maternity hospital site, now occupied by Thomas Court.
